10 Thoughts You Have When You're Home For The Summer

It's finally summer time

Now that school is over and summer has started, us students get to have the freedom we've been dreaming about all semester long. I'm pretty sure that at least half of the college student population has had or will have these thoughts this summer.

1. I'm sleeping for a week.

The second I get home, I don't want to move from my bed for the next week. This is the prime time for me to catch up on the sleep that I never got during the spring semester. Don't talk to me, don't make plans with me, and DO NOT wake me up at all.

2. FOOD.

Finally some good food. If there is a family event coming up, you better believe that I'm going to be packing leftovers for the next week and will be eating everything. Also, this is the perfect time for mom and/or dad to make some nice home-cooked meals (cough, cough, Mom).

3. I need a job.

If I'm planning to hang out with friends, I need to probably get a job. Not to mention, getting a head start on paying rent for next semester's apartment would be best. There's nothing like a nice flow of cash in the summer.

4. I'm going to work out this summer.

Maybe. Hopefully. probably not, but at least I'm thinking about it.

5. Great, I have classes this summer.

There's nothing like a summer class with your graduating class at your community college. It's like a high school reunion.

6. Road trip?

Gather the friend group and hit the road. Buuutt, let's be real, that's not going to happen.

7. I'm going to hang out with all of my friends all summer.

It's nearly impossible to get the entire friend group together to hang out. You'll have one friend on vacation, one working all summer, one that is in both summer session classes, and you sleeping away the summer.

8. I can't find anything.

I'm going to be honest, I probably won't fully unpack at all this summer. This makes it really hard to find all of my stuff and I end up angrily digging through all of my boxes.

9. It's family time.

9 times out of 10, your entire family will want to see you and talk about your semesters in school. Time to put on that smile and recite your entire spring semester within 10 minutes. You'll hear a lot of "What's your major now?" "How were your finals?" "What grades did you make?" "What do you want to do after college?" "Have you thought about graduate school?"

10. I want to go back to [insert your college town].

Late nights out, your college friend group, and the freedom that college had was amazing and sometimes it's hard not to miss it. Especially when you have a house full of animals and people that are a little crazy sometimes.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
