10 Things You've Said if You're the Mom Friend
Epic Dash

When you observe a group of friends from afar, you probably tend to think that everyone in the group has similar personalities. For the most part, this is true. But once you start to observe the group more, you begin to realize that everyone has a role in the group. The smart one, sporty one, funny one, or the musical one. Last but not least, the mom. This is everyone's "go-to" person.

Looking at my friend group from high school, and my current friend group now, I've begun to realize that I am that person. I don't know why, but I've always been the one to take this role, Being this friend of the group, I've begun to realize that I say a lot of mom-like things to my friends. If you're the mom friend of your group then you can probably relate to these terms as well.

1. "If you need anything let me know."

Whether you have boy problem, or a fashion crisis, or need something to eat, you can always ask this person about it.

2. "I made sure to bring ____________"

Being the mom of the group, you always know that something will be forgotten by someone or there won't be enough of one item. So since you know this, you always plan to bring more of an item just in case. You can't ever be too prepared

3. "I wouldn't do that if I were you."

You know when your friend says they're going to do something dumb like, oh I don't know try to take ice cream out of a carton with a knife? (This us something that actually happened. You know exactly who you are. YES I mean you.) You tell them they probably shouldn't but decide to do anyway? Yeah, that's what this line is made for.

4. "If you fall/ hurt yourself I'm going to laugh."

This is usually said after your friend decides to do the dumb thing you told them not to do. Hey, I gave you the warning, therefore I can laugh if you decide not to listen and then get hurt.

5. "Was that a smart idea?"

Once they fall and hurt themselves, this is probably what you say afterward. And the typical answer to this is usually "no."

6. "Do you need me to/ I can give you a ride."

As the mom, you want to make sure that your "kids" get to where they need to go all in one piece. As long as they are with you, you know that they will get to their destination alive

7. "Drive safe. Call me when you get there."

For the times that you can't give them a ride, you still want that the to make sure that they're safe. This also means that if you don't hear from them within a certain time frame, you're going to be blowing up their phones with calls and texts asking them for their whereabouts.

8. "I told you so."

The classic "mom" line. This usually ties in with number 5, but it's usually a little more "in your face." The response after this statement is usually "Okay mom," or "Yes mom."

9. "Give me a hug."

Because even though you told them not to do that one thing, they decided to do it anyway. So when they come to you crying, you know that they probably don't want to hear you lecture them. They probably just want a hug.

10. " I love you."

The most important phrase out of all of these. Yes, you can reprimand your friends all you want, but at the end of the day those three words are sometimes the only ones that they need to hear. They will always be the ones that are the most important.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
