10 Things You'll Miss About Syracuse Over The Summer

There's no place like home, but there's also no place like Syracuse.

10 Things You'll Miss About Syracuse Over The Summer
New York Upstate

Another great year has come to a close. You're at that point where you just want school to end, but the feeling is bittersweet. As bad as you want finals week to fly on by, you know at the end of it, it's time to pack up and leave. You're now realizing that you'll be away from Syracuse University for months, and with that there are things that will seriously be missed...

10. Marshall Street

You'll miss having everything you need being literally within a mile radius. From Starbucks, Chipotle, Varsity and the bars… you don’t even need a car (unless you live on south). Not only is Marshall good in the daytime, but also everyone’s go to at 2 AM. M Street, Calios or Acropolis is always the move after a night out.

9. Dj’s happy hour

There is literally no better way to let go of your “end of the week stress” than with a $4 pitcher or $8 rum bucket. What will we do on Thursdays from 6-8 PM?

8. Going to the bars

From Dj’s, Harry’s, Lucy’s, and Chucks (if you’re old enough) you know that the bars on Marshall Street are always poppin’ from literally Tuesday-Saturday. I could really go for a fishbowl from Lucy’s right about now…

7. Recapping events from the night before with your squad

When the phrase “what the hell happened last night?” comes into play. You log into Snapchat to relive and try to remember what the hell you did or said the night before.

6. Sleepovers every night with your roommate

They might snore, are too loud while getting ready in the morning, and distract you while you’re trying to study, but you know you’ll miss the person who is always down to order Dominos at 3 AM.

5. Having all of your best friends within walking distance

Start saving every penny you can for gas money because the distance to see your friends over the summer definitely isn’t going to be as close as the walk from Watson to DellPlain.

4. Walking around campus on a beautiful day

If you go here you’re automatically biased about your campus being the most beautiful campus. But really, there is nothing better than 'Cuse on a sunny day... no matter what day of the week, every house on frat row jamming out to music, and trips to Gannon’s Ice-Cream.

3. Tailgates and Day Drinks at Castle, East Adams, and 507

Where is every student supposed to go to neglect their responsibilities when they’re not in Syracuse?

2. Game Days

We’ll miss the days where Otto’s Army shows their Cuse’ pride by filling the Dome doing what we do best… Bleeding orange and screaming loud as hell for our team. Every student at Syracuse will never forget this past semester’s experience with going to the Final Four.

1. Bleeding Orange

We’ll miss the only place where it’s socially acceptable to wear a bright orange shirt any day. But then again… You go to Syracuse University. Wear that orange shirt with pride to remind everyone at home that you go to the best damn school in the world.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
