10 Things I Miss About High School

10 Things I Miss About High School

Not going to lie, I never thought I would say "I miss high school." And don't get me wrong, the con list is 6 times the pro list. From the petty drama to the crappy food. But, if I could take ten things from high school and include them in my college life, this is the list of the things I miss the most and wish I had:

1. Seeing the same faces everyday

Trust me, I never thought I would say this, but you miss all the familiar faces. In college, you get on a routine to where you see some of the same people every day but there isn't a day that goes by where I say, "I have never seen that person before in my life."

2. Having classes with your best friends

In college, your classes are based on your major. So, if your friends don't have the same major as you, you are left alone in a class full of people you don't know. One perk is you do make some pretty awesome new friends.

3. Being Friends with a Teacher or Two

You were on a first name basis and knew about their life. More often than not your conversations were about how their family is doing rather than class or homework. Plus, you knew that you always had a friend and could go to them for everything.

4. Being able to slack off

We can all admit that we slacked off in High School. You could finish homework in class and not always have to study for a test. In college, homework takes hours and tests are hard.

5. Spirit Week

Oh my gosh, I loved spirit week. It was so much to be able to go crazy and be different and stand out. You don't get fun weeks like this in college. Sure, I could show up to class in my minion footie pajamas but it's just not the same.

6. Homecoming and Prom

Yes, its cliche but I loved homecoming and prom. I loved getting an excuse to dress up and feel pretty and just be able to dance the night away. The dressiest I have gotten for college was for a speech in one of my classes.

7. Lockers

Lockers are a huge thing that I miss. I hate having to take three classes worth of notebooks, binders, and books with me because I don't have time to walk all the way back to my dorm to get the next classes materials in 3 minutes. Plus, the inside of my locker was always decorated and who doesn't miss opening their locker to be greeted with pictures everywhere?

8. Morning Announcements

Not going to lie, morning announcements were boring. But, it was so much easier to have people tell everyone all at once what was going on that day or even that week.

9. Substitute Teachers

In high school, when you walked into class and saw the sub sitting in the desk, you knew that you would have that class period to basically do nothing. I have not been fortunate enough in college to get a professor who cancels class so I sure do miss having classes where you just do nothing.

10. The 'SQUAD'

I miss all the gossiping and going to the bathroom together. I miss seeing them everyday. I miss the sleepovers and mall trips. I miss spending way too much money going out to eat and our jam sessions in the car.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
