10 Things To Do BEFORE Deciding What You Are Going To Do With Your Life

We all grow up with the idea that our lives have a specific timeline.

Graduate from high school, go directly to college, graduate with a degree, and start your career. No room for error. So, what happens when you have absolutely no idea what you want to do with your life? Well, I have something extremely important to share with you: IT IS OKAY TO NOT KNOW WHAT YOU WANT TO DO WITH YOUR LIFE.

Who made the rule that you have to know right away, and follow the strict timeline of what a good life is supposed to look like? News flash, there are no rules. There are much more parts of life that are waiting to be experienced by you.

You have time to figure out your career, so instead of stressing over that, here are 10 things that you must do to make sure that you enjoy the journey of life:

1. Fall in love.

Experience what it feels like to love someone, and have them love you too. Know what it's like to feel warm inside just from hearing their voice. Feel the connectedness between you when you're wrapped up in each other's arms.

2. Find yourself.

Find out the things that you are passionate about. Search different hobbies until you find one that you love to do. Recognize your strength, and accept your weaknesses. Figure out how to love every part of you.

3. Crash a party.

Going to a party where nobody knows you can actually make for a great night. Be whoever you want to be, say whatever you want to say! After all, nobody knows you, so why not do something stupid?

4. Go on a road trip with friends.

Road tripping with friends is something that everyone must do in their lives. Just get in the car and drive somewhere. Turn the music up loud, forget about your problems, and just drive with the people that you love. Wherever you end up driving to will create a place full of memories.

5. Say goodbye to your comfort zone, at least for a night.

Do something that you wouldn't normally do. Kiss a stranger, dance on a table, sing a song on karaoke. Take a risk!

6. Travel to another country.

Go to a new country and experience a different way of living. Experience the different food, clothes, and language. Open your eyes to new things!

7. Conquer a fear.

Fear is often all in your mind. Often times the things that we are scared of aren't actually harmful, they just look scary. Instead of running away from your fears, face them head on, and overcome them!

8. Attend a bar crawl.

You may drink too much and spend too much money, but you'll have a hell of a time. It'll definitely make for a day that you will never forget.

9. Volunteer for a cause that you care about.

Volunteering is an amazing way to help others. Find something that you really care about and volunteer! The feeling that you get when helping others is priceless.

10. Explore different hobbies.

Play a sport, learn an instrument, try drawing. Find something that you really enjoy doing, and run with it. It doesn't have to be a way of making money, just something that you like to do! Hobbies are a really awesome way of taking time to do something for yourself.

Society makes people think that there is a strict timeline to their lives. Young people are supposed to have it all figured out, and know what they want to do with their lives. The truth is, lots of us don't. And that is okay. Life is about enjoying yourself and the journey that lies in front of you, not stressing out about following the made-up timeline of life.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
