How many people can say they've never gotten a pimple in their life? Yeah, probably not very many. We've all been there at one point or another. It sucks.
But this post isn't for the occasional pimple getter. This post is for the select group of people that truly suffer from constant or reoccurring acne.
Because only we know how badly it impacts our lives. Only we know how many events we've missed out on because we were just too embarrassed to leave the house. Only we know how much time we've wasted crying over something we can't change. Only we know how far we'd go just to experience clear skin. Only we know how physically painful cystic acne is, and how nobody really cares or understands how we feel. Only we know these struggles. Only we know these heartaches. Only we know how it feels to have acne that never really leaves.
Lucky us, right? *rolls eyes*
1. You know better than to act surprised when you wake up with a new pimple.
It happens far too often for you to be shocked anymore.
2. Doing your makeup is more like a battle scene than a fun activity.
It takes 1,000 years to do your face. Your skin isn't cooperative. And nothing covers completely.
3. You've tried every product on the market, so you laugh whenever you see a new one that claims to cure your acne.
And, no. Proactiv doesn't effing work.
4. You miss school/work whenever you're feeling particularly insecure.
And now you've missed seven chapters worth of notes. Thanks, acne!
5. When you go out in public, this is literally you
And if you see anyone you know at the grocery store? You just slyly back away like this.
6. You feel the need to call attention to your acne before anyone else does.
It's just somehow less embarrassing. Don't fight me on this.
7. You don't understand why some people have flawless skin and you don't.
Look at all these pretty people, just taking their clear skin for granted.
8. Your dermatologist has put you on every medication/cream and even they can't seem to help you.
And don't forget about those side effects. Dry and itchy skin, yay!
9. Your friends are like, "You should try _____. I heard it works!" And this is you in response.
"Yeah OK, Rebecca. I tried that home remedy in the seventh grade. I have an entire Pinterest board devoted to this stuff. Don't talk to me."
10. Acceptance
This is your life. This is who you are. Embrace it. And pray that someday medical science will eradicate this form of hell from existence and off of your face.
Basically, acne sucks. Others don't get it. Others call us dramatic or tell us that it isn't a big deal. But we know how real the struggle is. We know.
