We can only hope that every year in college offers something unique and exciting. Freshman year, however, is different from all the rest and there are definitely parts about it that most of us miss sometimes…
1. The initial excitement of the first day.
It is nearly impossible to explain the feeling when you first get to college. It was a whirlwind of uncertainty, excitement, and anxiety, but nothing compares to the first day you arrive on campus.
2. Your roommate.
Unlike me, not everyone has the luxury of living with their freshman year roommate all throughout college. Even if you didn’t get along with your first roommate, they shared a room with you and experienced some pretty monumental moments alongside you.
3. The communal living style.
Although I can’t say I would willingly live in a dorm again, I absolutely loved living within a few feet from my closest friends all year long. Whether you needed a study buddy, someone to vent to, or just someone to keep you company; it was impossible to feel lonely while in the communal dorms and I definitely miss that sometimes.
4. Finally feeling liberated because you’re in college.
After years of living under your parents’ roof, you finally felt the excitement of independence. Although I still have that, it isn’t as fresh and glamorous as it was during freshman year.
5. Being able to take easy core classes.
My major isn’t as difficult as others, but moving into classes that correlate with your major adds some pressure and stress. TBT to the days of taking random classes that were required as University core.
6. Not having to worry about declaring a major yet.
Declaring a major is easily one of the most stressful decisions that we have to make during college. Will I make money if I do this? Probably not, but might as well wing it.
7. Having a solid meal plan.
As my junior year of college is approaching, I realize that my meal plan options are quickly diminishing. Don’t take your meal plan for granted during freshman year kids, the convenience of a meal plan doesn’t last forever.
8. Trying to get into parties where you didn’t know anyone.
Haha SIKE.
9. Your very first friends from your residence hall.
I haven’t kept in contact with some of you, but I will always appreciate the times we had hanging out and doing freshman things.
10. The adventure of reinventing yourself.
TBT to a year of self-discovery, growth, mistakes, adventures, laughs, and everything in-between. RIP freshman year, you are missed.
