10 Things You Know To Be True If You Have Older Brothers
Diana Dodd

If you're a girl and you grew up with any number of brothers, older or younger, you know it's always a party in the house. I personally grew up with three older brothers, and even though at times we hated each other, they're my best friends at the end of the day. Here's some thing's I've learned to be true growing up with brothers.

1. They'll never steal your clothes, but you still steal theirs.

I always knew when I heard footsteps pounding down the hallway to my room it was more than likely one of my older brothers coming to yell at me for taking one of their T-shirts... but hey, who can blame a girl for loving oversized T's?

2. Three brothers means three body guards.

Brothers pick on you and make fun of you, but if anyone else in the world did that then your brothers will always be there to throw a punch or two. They're my biggest protectors in life (besides my dad also)

3. There's never food in the house.

I don't know what it is, but boys just eat and eat and eat and their hunger never goes away. Now that I'm older when my brothers and I are home for the holidays, we make grocery trips daily.

4. Dirt was the new pink?

Meaning growing up with boys, they taught you how to get your hands dirty, how to throw a football, and you basically did everything with the guys ever since you could walk.

5. You always have someone to joke with at family gatherings.

Family gatherings and other events can sometimes be a drag, but having your brothers by your side to hang out with and joke about when dad's going to fall asleep in the chair after all the turkey from Thanksgiving makes it a little more bearable.

6. You always pull the "he hit me first" on mom and dad.

And it usually worked to get your brothers in trouble more than you were. Sorry boys!

7) You were known as "____'s little sister" all throughout school...

If you know how this feels, it's super annoying... but you were also proud to be their little sis at the same time (you just didn't want to admit it).

8. They do unnecessary things to make you mad...

But it usually makes for a good story later on in life!

9. They're the only people you can have petty fights with and know they're not leaving your side.

No matter what the fight is, even if you're physically fighting..they're still your brothers and will never be going anywhere. They're stuck being your brother.

10. You have a lifelong best friend.

Like I said, they're not going anywhere.. and at the end of the day, neither are you. You're always there for each other and will always be best friends.

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
