10 Things To Do When It's Raining

As the weather continues to change on a day-to-day basis as it does in Missouri, we are prone to the ever changing effects of it. One day we are loving the sunshine as the high reaches 80, and the next day the high is 60 with low clouds. Tagging along, like a best friend, that comes with the ever changing weather is sickness. So maybe i should have titled this, "10 Things To Do When You're Sick" however, it's raining now and I am not sick, but this list will still help the sick.

1. Read

Most likely when it's raining, the satellite/cable goes out. So what do you do when your favorite show is interrupted by one of the biggest storms: read! Reading takes you to a different world, you can forget about your problems and get involved in someone else's for however long you want to.

2. Make playlists

Music, we all love music. So what better thing to do than make a playlist for yourself or friends. Music helps us in more ways than we realize, so while it's dreary out make a playlist to boost your mood whenever you're having a bad day. Don't forget to share your playlists with your friends, you never know who you can help.

3. Listen to Podcasts

Call me old, but I enjoy listening to podcasts. There's a whole new world I missed out on because I never knew anything about podcasts up until last year. Podcasts can teach you more about various topics, make you laugh, or help you catch up on the latest season of "Serial", there's a podcast for everyone.

4. Watch a movie

When it's raining and you have nothing else to do, pop your favorite movie in the DVD player, or just find one on Netflix, and you're set. What better way to knock out two and a half hours than with a movie.

5. Watch YouTube videos

YouTube, the endless void of entertainment. You can go from watching "TED" videos to watching cats jump off of tables in a matter of seconds. Whatever you want to watch, learn or explore there's a YouTube video for it.

6. Clean

The tv is out, you've marathoned all your shows on Netflix and now you are bored. The next thing you can do is clean! You'll feel so much better after you've cleaned up, it's a wonder how much different you feel in a clean space versus a dirty one.

7. Sleep

It's raining outside, so why not get the few hours you've been missing out on during the week and get it now. Sleep refreshes you and you wake up feeling happier. Plus after a few hours you're more prone to getting things done.

8. Draw/Color

If you've already gotten enough sleep and you don't want to ruin your sleep schedule, drawing and/or coloring are good forms of self expression and relieving stress. For me, adult coloring books do the trick since I can't draw to save my life. If drawing or painting is your form of relief, then take a piece of paper and draw/paint to your hearts content.

9. Cook

Make your favorite meal, or make a meal you've never made before for yourself or your friends. Cooking is another form of self-expression, because there's no right or wrong way to make a meal(unless you burn it, or under cook it). Just remember to have fun and add whatever ingredients you want.

10. Go outside

It's raining! So put on some rain boots, a hoodie, and maybe a jacket and go outside and have fun. Jump around in some puddles, run around in the rain and feel like a kid again. Instead of running from the rain, stand in it and embrace it.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
