This past week, for a total of five days, I was without internet (oh the horror). It really was like a nightmare to me because I am the kind of person who survives off Netflix on the daily. Just so you know, I finally have internet now!!!! I didn't know what I was going to do to make it through and was fearful of being too bored. Luckily, I had roommates to get me through this rough time, but I thought maybe I should share with the world some things to do if you are bored (especially if you have no internet connection). It seems like a very daunting task, but the five days I went without having internet ended up going by faster than I thought they would. So world, here is exactly just what you have been looking for!
1.) Bake!!
Either show off your baking skills that you already have, or start practicing on some of those recipes you have saved on your Pinterest board. Bake a pie or some cupcakes or even start small with the ready-bake chocolate chip cookies from Pillsbury. It doesn't matter what you bake, as long as you do it and post it on Instagram. Because did you really even bake anything if you didn't post it on Instagram?
2.) Take a walk.
Whether it be inside or outside, a walk is a walk! Get up and walk around your neighborhood or take a walk around your house. If you can't go outside, walk the length of your house, up and down the steps, or if you are fortunate enough, on your tread mill. You can't go wrong with getting exercise! You can even throw on some tunes and walk to some of your favorite songs.
3.) Talk to the people you live with.
If you are fortunate to live with other people, then use your time wisely to talk. Talk about your day, how your week is going, talk about your dreams and aspirations, etc. Laugh about stupid stuff and have fun! Who needs TV anyway right?
4.) People watch (or neighbor watch).
If you are like me, you are very curious about other people's lives. You often find yourself looking out the window every time you see movement, just to see what is going on outside. By the end of the week, you will know that lady on the end of the apartment complex takes her dogs for a walk twice a day and the guys across the street rarely come out of their house. Is it weird that I already know so much about their lives even though I have never met them?
5.) Read a book.
I am one of them weird people who love to read, so sit me down on the couch with a good book in hand and I am set for the night! All I need is some good lighting and then the rest is history. Other than surviving off Netflix, I also like to survive off books. If you pick out a book that speaks to your interests, then you could find yourself in the midst of a page turner.
6.) Journal.
Take some time to write your feelings out. Believe me, it feels really good to get everything out in the open (on pages that will be kept private). You might start feeling better about yourself in the process! And if you don't want to actually write everything down, use your computer. You don't always have to use your computer to get on the internet!
7.) Paint your nails.
If you are a girl like me, you paint your nails on a weekly bases anyway, so might as well do it when you are bored! It takes a long time to get your nails the way you want them, so because you have so much time now, you can focus on making them perfect!
8.) Pick out what you are going to wear the next day.
It usually takes me a little while in the morning to pick out my clothes, so it would probably be a better option for me to pick my outfit out the night before when I have absolutely nothing to do. If I'm not feeling it in the morning, then I can at least say that I tried!
9.) Call a family member to catch up.
You might have been neglecting your family anyway with your busy life and all, so because you are so bored, now would be a good time to give them a call! See how they are and let them know that you haven't forgotten about them and that you aren't stranded on a deserted island.
10.) Lay on the floor.
Sometimes it's nice to just lay on the floor and think. Stare at the ceiling. Think about life. Think about nothing. Sometimes it's nice to just be able to stretch out on the floor and roll around like a cat.
Being bored isn't particularly fun. But hopefully I helped you out a little bit here and gave you at least one good idea to go off of. If none of these particularly appealed to you, try to come up with other things that you might enjoy doing when you are bored! Make a list for yourself just in case you ever find yourself in the same situation as myself (no internet) and then you will be extra prepared without the stress of not knowing what to do!
