10 Things That Happen When You're The Oldest Sibling

10 Things That Happen When You're The Oldest Sibling
Gabrielle Chester

Being the oldest sibling has its ups and downs, I'm sure you know that or can imagine. Sometimes you get to sit in the front seat and other times you are clearly the "tester" child for your parents. Either way, I'd say being the first has overall been pretty great. Here are ten cool things that happen when you're the oldest sibling:

1. You get to drive a car first

You even get a car first! And this means FREEDOM. When you get your license you can drive to McDonald's whenever you want, and who doesn't see that as a plus.

2. You get a cell phone & laptop first

This is big. I think we can all remember that first day we got a cell phone and all our little siblings wanted to see it. NUH-UH nugget the cellular device is mine.

3. You get calls from your younger sibling(s) when they need advice

So this is a little more sentimental. But getting calls from my younger sisters when they need advice or just to talk is something pretty special. Having that bond with your younger siblings is irreplaceable, and by being an older sister, you're able to really appreciate that.

4. You are your siblings' "go-to teacher for life"

Let me explain, basically by being an older sister you get some pretty awesome, hysterical, weird questions thrown your way. It's like they are too embarrassed to ask a friend so since you're family, but not their mom, they pick you. Being the older sibling that gets to answer those questions is just fun.

5. You are the child of "wisdom" in the family

You're kind of always like, "been there done that, don't do that" if you get my drift. You have made your fair share of mistakes, but you learned from them and have the great opportunity to preach it to the younger crew.

6. You will never, and I mean never, know what a "hand me down" is like

How great. I mean you just literally keep getting new clothes as you just hand down things that are out of style or just don't fit you anymore.

7. Your parents really care about your academics and sport activities

When you're the first, your parents are still excited. They have all this energy and they want to put it all into you and everything you do. They push you more to be better and do better. Lets just say they are a little more tired when the third kid rolls around.

8. You are spoiled (in a good way)

And if you are the first grandchild you are even more spoiled! You are constantly showered with tons of love and baby toys till at least the second child joins ya.

9. You are your younger siblings' protector

When it comes to mean girls and crappy guys, lets just say they are all scared of you. You have your little siblings' backs, no matter what.

10. You get to experience the world first

There is something cool about this one. Being the oldest, you get to explore the world and all the beautiful places it holds first. You get to see a different culture, experience a different country, and hold those memories close to you forever. Then getting to do it again when your little sibling decides to travel is even better.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
