Living at home with your parents, and living alone at your own at school. If you're anything like me, you tend to do "adult" things more when you're at school. You also are reunited with some of your best friends that you've been separated from for months. On top of all that, you also are thrust into a new routine of classes and studying. All the things that come with being away at college cause things to happen that don't often happen when you're at home.

1. Eating the same thing for dinner literally every night, and when you have something different, it's a big deal.

Whether it's coming from the dining hall or you're making it yourself, there doesn't seem to be much variety in the college diet. Eating campus food means finding something you somewhat enjoy and doesn't upset your stomach (my personal favorite was the Chicken Caesar Wrap from Bloomsburg's Italian Kitchen), and if you're making food at your apartment, you choose something that's quick, easy, and inexpensive. Basically pasta or frozen food.

2. Waiting until you actually have no clothes left to do laundry.

Unless you're fortunate enough to have a washer and dryer in your apartment, you probably aren't doing laundry as often as you should. For one thing, you really just don't feel like doing laundry, and for another: LAUNDRY IS EXPENSIVE. Bonus points if you don't bother separating your lights and darks.

3. Thinking everything is expensive.

Going to the movies? Too expensive. Going to get some fast food? Too expensive. Going to the mall? Only if I don't buy anything, otherwise it's too expensive.

4. Not even getting ready in the morning, just rolling out of bed and leaving.

It doesn't matter that you look like trash when everyone else does too. The key is wearing a hat so no one knows you didn't wash your hair.

5. Talking to your friends about someone from Tinder who you literally have not even met.

Your parents told you not to talk to strangers on the Internet, but here you are. You know your friends won't judge you for using it because they probably are too. Plus, you can get advice from them about whether they should get coffee with mysterious Tinder Person.

6. Talking to your friends about what you're going to buy yourself when you're not a broke college student, even though you know in the back of your mind you won't be able to because of your student loans.

You're also desperately trying to pretend that the Bachelor's degree isn't slowly becoming worthless and pretending that you won't eventually have to go to graduate school.

7. Calling your parents whenever you have a slight problem or question.

At home, you're a problem solver. At school, you're helpless.

8. Not trying to be a normal, sane human around your roommates anymore.

There's only so long you can hide your weird side before you start to go crazy.

9. Use having your own place as an excuse to do things you did as a kid.

Making blanket forts with your roommate, eating snacks you only used to have as a child, and watching shows that haven't been on television in 15 years are some of my favorite activities.

10. Feeling the need to share a really cool fact that you learned in class with everyone.

I'M EDUCATED.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
