10 Things To Thank Your Grandparents For

Grandparents are pretty amazing. From taking you shopping for Christmas presents, to giving you advice on life, Grandparents serve an important role in all of our lives. They teach us how to be in a happy marriage, how to forgive each other, and how to love ourselves for who we are. As my grandparents celebrate their 53rd wedding anniversary, I think it's time for us all to say, "Hey, Grandma and Grandpa you are the best!" Here's why:

1. They Were By Your Side From Day 1.

Ever since we were born they have been by our sides. When we were smelly, sticky babies, they gladly changed our diapers, and played baby sitters to give our parents a deserved break. They were influencing us before we even knew it!

2. The Loved Us When We Were Ugly Middle Schoolers.

Your grandparents even liked you (at least pretended to) when you were an obnoxious thirteen year old, and they are still in your life! If that's not true love, I don't know what is.

3. They Made Every Holiday Extra Special.

Whether it was seeing what cool presents Grandma and Papa got you for Christmas, or opening a package of chocolate on Valentines Day, Grandparents always go above and beyond to make sure their grandkids have the most magical holiday ever.

4. They Gave Us A Second Place to Call Home.

After all of the dinners I have eaten at your house, I think I might need to start referring to Grandma and Papa's as home. In all of our lowest points, our Grandparent's have always kept their doors open. Their house has become a place for us to get away and relax, because with Grandma and Papa around, nothing can hurt you.

5. They Make You Feel Safe.

If there is one thing I can guarantee, nobody will go after the people that give you are hard time more than your Grandparents. Whenever someone is mean to you, and if you need someone on your side, Grandma and Grandpa will be the first to go on a really awful but amazing rant about how terrible they are for not liking you.

6. They Spoil You.

Whether they can afford to spoil you or not, your Grandparent's will always do their best to make sure you have everything you could ever need. Christmas and Birthdays were always extra special because of them, don't forget it!

7. They Are Great Travel Companions.

Whether it is a quick trip to visit them in Florida, or a longer trip to somewhere exotic, Grandparents always make vacationing extra special. From their bounding knowledge of the world, to their interesting perspectives on different cultures, getting to go places with your Grandparents is alway amazing.

8. They Are Amazing Cooks.

The reason we wanted to go to dinner at Grandma and Papa's was always because you are better looks than our parents. At your house, we are guaranteed a tasty meal followed up by ice cream, and there is nothing better than that!

9. They Listen To You.

Whenever I have a problem, I know that my grandparents will always be ready to listen to what I say, and give me brutally honest advice (whether or not it's what I want to hear).

10. They Love You Unconditionally.

No matter what rash or stupid things we do, our Grandparents will always accept us. For all of our faults, they think we are perfect in our own ways, and there is nothing better than that.

So, Happy Anniversary Grandma and Papa! May you always remember how thankful I am to have you in my life.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
