10 Things Rollins Students Brag About

We all do it.

10 Things Rollins Students Brag About

When you think of college pride, most people have image-flashes of packed football stadiums, face paint, endless college t-shirts, and the classic "Proud *insert college name* Mom" bumper stickers. While most schools tailgate their biggest football games, Rollins students can often be heard bragging about other things.

1. How beautiful the campus is

The Princeton Review named us #1 Most Beautiful Campus a few days ago, but I'm sure you knew that already, what with the thousands of article shares on Facebook. You can't even go one day without seeing a Lake Virginia picture on Instagram with the caption "My campus, is better than yours 🙈💛💙⚓️ #rollins"

2. #GoTars

Whether you see it on actual social media platforms or hear someone say it sarcastically in conversation, it's a hashtag that everyone knows and uses at some point for school pride. Yay athletics! Did you hear about our ladies soccer or lacrosse?

3. Class Sizes

Yeah, my biggest class has like 20 people in it and my smallest class has 7. It stinks if you want to skip, but it has definitely helped me learn. It's a discussion, not a lecture!

4. The Professors

Tons of college students are plagued with "bad" professors who they hate, but not at Rollins. Our professors actually care if we succeed. Wait, you have a class with Dr. Mathews? I love her!

5. Our Rankings

Rollins is pretty small, so sometimes we can get overlooked by bigger, more popular universities. But once we're ranked on top, all the students remember. We're #2 in the South, but we'll make a comeback for #1 -- don't worry.

6. The Academics

All Rollins programs are great and interesting, no matter what major you choose. I'm double majoring in Bio and Computer Science with a double minor in English and SWAG -- that's Sexuality Women and Gender Studies, you muggle.

7. The fact we are a liberal arts college

You may not have known what liberal arts really meant when you chose Rollins, but now you definitely do. We care about the community and social justice, and that translates to all classes across Rollins.

8. Fox Day

The annual, long-awaited holiday exclusive to Rollins makes everyone jealous, and we certainly have no problem bragging about it. OMG, when is it going to be Fox Day?! What's Fox Day? Oh you wouldn't know, peasant.

9. Our Parties

Oh, we can party, don't get it twisted. If we're not at Club Olin, we're clubbing downtown. Tier nights! Fids? Fids. It's already 9 pm?! Oh my gosh I need to get ready now if I want to shower, curl my hair, put on makeup, empty out my closet, and find my best pair of high heels! Wait, it's a themed night? I'm screwed.

10. How small the school is

Sure, we may not have everything a big university can provide, but one thing we pride ourselves in is being a tight-knit community. You don't just pass by strangers on the way to lunch; you wave and converse with at least five people before even reaching the steps of the Campus Center. I love all my friends and everyone at school! When is summer going to end? I miss them so much! #gotars

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
