There are certain benchmarks that everyone knows about being an older sibling. These are things that every older sibling can relate to and understand in ways that the younger ones don't.
10. You essentially become the babysitter
Let's face it, there's been times where your parents have said, "we're leaving, stay out of trouble, you're in charge." Now you've got to keep the out of trouble... that's the challenge.
9. Being "in charge" translates to "being bossy" to everyone else
I'm pretty sure every older sibling has been called bossy at least once in their lives. What they don't realize is, we aren't bossy, we just like to think we know everything!
8. You're always the one who gets in trouble during the fights
"They don't know any better, you're the older one, you should take responsibility." -Every parent ever
Come on, they're 12 years old, and they understand that if they pull my hair, I'm going to throw a fit.
7. You get to stay up later
The classic logic behind being an older sibling is that you get a later bedtime than the younger ones because you're older.
6. They always get everything earlier than you did
That cell phone you got in 7th grade? They got it when they were in 6th. That iPod you were pumped about in 5th grade? Yeah, they got it in 4th grade. It never ends!
5. When you get your license, you become the chauffeur of the family
How many times have your mom or dad asked if you could bring your sibling to practice, the mall, school or even a friend's house?
4. Just call me an in-home tutor!
Your parents send them to you whenever they don't understand homework because they don't understand it either. Secretly, you actually don't mind it because the fact that they're asking you for help can be a little confidence booster, even though you don't always know what you're doing either.
3. Your parents give you a lot of rules and have high expectations when it comes to you
They feel like since you're the first, they need to be cautious with you whereas by the time the younger one comes around, they let them do their thing.
2. They always copy you
Whatever you do, say or even wear, they copy because, after all, you are the cool one.
1. "Because I'm the older one!"
That's your answer to almost every "why" or "how", not to mention the end of an argument with a sibling.
But, at the end of it all, you and your sibling have a strong bond that nothing can replace or come between. They are, after all, your blood. You blink your eyes, and there you have it, folks, they're all grown up and getting their permit. It's crazy how fast life goes, and even though the younger ones tend to annoy you the most, I wouldn't trade them for the world.
