In lieu of today being Thanksgiving, I felt a reflection on the things I'm thankful for was appropriate.
My Parents
The amount of things they do for me is astonishing and I owe everything to them. Without their guidance and love, I could have never have found the courage to follow my dreams. I miss them every day I'm away at school but I know that one day I can make them proud and everything will be worth it. I could never repay everything they've done for me, but I hope my accomplishments could make a dent.
My Friends (Current and Past)
These are the people I grew up with, the ones I met throughout school, and the ones I'm still making away at school. Thank you for teaching me countless lessons about how to have fun, how to persevere, and how to grow stronger. I believe everyone enters your life to provide a lesson, so whether we are still friends or not, thank you for everything you've taught me.
My Guardian Angel
Mom-Mom, another holiday season is coming and going and I still find myself in disbelief that you're not here to see it all in person. I know you're watching us all from somewhere else, and while I'm not totally sure I know what that place is, I know it's happy and I know you're there protecting and loving us all.
My Family
From my grandparents to my cousins and to my aunts and uncles: thank you. Your presence in my life has provided so much enrichment and happiness. I can't imagine a world without laughing around a family dinner table over anything and everything.
My Roommate
We may only have met a few months ago, but wow, I can't imagine my life without you in it. This past semester has been filled with laughs, exams, tears, ice cream, Netflix binging and I wouldn't want to do it with anyone else. I'm positive that I would have never survived this semester without you, so thank you.
Everything In-between
I'm thankful that I picked such a welcoming college. I'm thankful for the amazing professors I was given. I'm thankful for the campus store being open till 2 AM because some nights you just need ice cream at 2 AM. I'm thankful for my health. I'm thankful for there always being a meal available to me because I've come to realize everyone does not have this luxury.
I'm thankful for my cats who keep the playfulness in me alive. I'm thankful for Facebook always being a steady income of adorable animal videos. I'm thankful that I have the privilege to be writing this article, in my warm room, on my laptop, wearing proper clothes, while I'm drinking a water bottle because there are so many people in this world without the basic privileges we take advantage of every day. I live a great life and this holiday season I choose to start being thankful, not just on Thanksgiving, but every day.
