As a future out-of-state college student, I know that I'll be surrounded by people bonding over their rival high school football teams and dreaded Atlanta traffic, while I sit there and pretend like I know exactly what they're talking about. In my realization that I will be starting over with brand new friends in an unfamiliar place, one of my top priorities was finding a roommate who I could not only get along with, but could be one of my best friends. As soon as I was accepted, I searched the housing website high and low for a girl who loves Netflix and country music as much as I do. I came across one account that stuck out to me, and did what any normal girl would do -- stalked her Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram to make sure she wasn't a weirdo. I wish I could say I really appreciated her love of the outdoors, or her intended major was similar to mine, and that is why I reached out to her via Instagram DM. In all honesty, I thought she was pretty and had really good style and hoped she was a sharer when it came to clothes. Call me shallow, I don't care. She responded right away, and after texting back and forth for a couple of weeks catfish-style, I had the opportunity to meet her in person. Here's what you can expect if you haven't yet had the experience of meeting your future college roommate.
1. It took you forever to decide what to wear. This just wasn't some date with a boy who doesn't know the first thing about style, it's your future fashion guru.

2. You prayed she would love you and think you were the coolest person ever.

3. You hoped that you would like her, and that she wasn't some closet alcoholic or serial killer. You never know.

4. The first thing you notice about her in person is her perfect contour, and realize you'll have a personal makeup artist living with you (score).

5. You got an idea of everything you had in common over the phone, but talking in person you learn about her obsession with Netflix and late-night ice cream runs. You cry tears of joy on the inside.

6. You were jealous of her super-cute boots and even more upset that you two are different shoe sizes. Can't win em all.

8. Until you had a reality check with yourself and realized that college is the scariest thing ever, and you won't know what to do without your mom, dog, and queen-sized bed.

9. And then you remembered that your new froomie is the sweetest person ever and will always be there for you when you get homesick.

10. Much like the feeling you have with your first crush, you think this girl is the absolute bomb. She just gets you.

I know that living in such close quarters with a brand new friend is going to be an interesting experience, and I am not ignorant to the fact that we may have one (or more) arguments over a dirty towel left on the floor or taking too long in the shower. But for every disagreement, there are ten great memories, and I know my freshman year roommate and I will be friends for life.
