It's that time of year again! As of Thursday, September 8, the NFL kicked off the first game of the season with the matchup between the Carolina Panthers and the Denver Broncos. I know this because for as long as I can remember, I have thoroughly enjoyed watching football every Sunday, and anyone who knows me knows my extreme love for the Pittsburgh Steelers. But wait, I am a girl. And I like football. To some people this seems sort of off. Football is a man's sport, why should I like it, or try to be educated in its subject? Well here are ten things that I'm sure most girls who like football can all agree they are tired of hearing every season.

1. "Wow!! You like football! That's crazy!"

Yes. I do like football, actually. But can you explain to me why that strikes you as odd? Is it because I'm a girl? Oh wait, because as a girl, I must lack some gene that would make me like sports, and because I like them, that must make me some sort of freak of nature, right?

2. "But HOW do you know so much about football?"

Huh. It could be because I actually enjoy it. And that I'm interested in it and want to know anything I can about it. Oh wait, I forgot I'm a girl.

3. "If you know so much about football, who scored the first touchdown in Super Bowl III?"

This one always gets me. Men find out that you are a fan, and suddenly it's as if you need to prove that you are worthy, but knowing some outlandish statistic, that even they probably don't know.

4. "You only like that team because they're good."

Right. Because they've been excellent for the entire 21 years I've been a fan. But who am I to talk, I'm clearly not the football expert here.

5. "You only like that team because your dad does."

While I can't say you are entirely wrong here, this also doesn't mean I didn't have the mental capabilities to change which team I wanted to support over the years.

6. "It isn't ladylike to scream like that."

Oops. Sorry. I forgot what it meant to be a proper lady.

7. "I bet the only reason you watch football is because you like how the uniforms make the players' butts look."

Exactly. Because those uniforms are so distracting that I can't concentrate on the game.

8. "Do you actually know what that holding call meant?"

Yes, actually, I do. And I also know what off sides means. And what pass interference is. And intentional grounding. Should I continue?

9. "You don't look like someone who would be into football."

Is there a certain way a girl who likes football is supposed to look?

10. "I think it's hot when a girl likes football."

Trust me. That's not what our intention is here. We aren't trying to impress guys. We just generally like football. But thanks for trying.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
