This summer, I got my first job working as a sales associate at Old Navy. I learned some valuable lessons; these are the ones I want to pass on to you!
1. I don't want to pick up your trash.
There's nothing more annoying than picking up 12 empty Starbucks cups or removing a used Band-Aid from the fitting rooms.
2. I'm not your babysitter.
Please don't expect me to watch your kids while you shop... It's really not my job to make sure little Johnny stays out of trouble.
3. It's probably not my fault that the store is a mess: it's your fault for unfolding 25 shirts to find one in your size.
Remember, nice shoppers = nice store.
4. If you're mean to me, I really don't have to help you.
When I go into the back room to look for your size, I might not look that hard if you've treated me like your slave.
5. If you're nice to me, I'll be your new best friend.
I love nice customers! I want to help them however I can!
6. I'd really like to be your personal shopper.
But really, helping you pick out a new wardrobe is way more fun than folding these jeans.
7. I don't know everything about every single item in the store.
Do these polos shrink? Do these jeans run true to size? When will you get more of these in?
8. It's not my fault that we are out of stock in your size.
I'm not the one who does the reordering and replenishing; that's above my pay grade.
9. I'm not going to let you use my employee discount.
Do you want me to get fired?
10. I am a real person, with feelings and emotions.
Remember, I'm not your emotional punching bag. I'm just trying to do my job without dealing with rude customers.
Next time you're shopping, follow my advice, and you'll feel like an insider and expert! Share with your friends, because they should be in the know too!
