10 Things Everyone Misses About Summer During Winter

Who doesn't miss the warmth on their skin?

If you're anything like me, the cold weather just isn't for you. You'd much rather have your toes in the sand with a drink in your hand while basking in the warmth of summer. The cold can be difficult to deal with, so in order to keep up the good spirits, here are 10 things I love (and miss) about the summer.

1. The warmth, obviously

Nothing is more sad than feeling like you're getting hypothermia when you're already in 5 different layers of warm clothes while walking to class. Let's face it, I'll be an ice cube until May.

2. The beach

Nothing is more rejuvenating than relaxing on the beach. Tan skin, sand everywhere, the sounds of laughter and joy heard from the boardwalk, family and friends, etc. It brings a smile to my face just thinking about it. It makes me feel warm, literally and metaphorically.

3. Adventuring in nature

Nature is incredible in the summer time. The trees are an amazing shade of green, the birds are singing, bees are buzzing, and the wind takes the edge off of the intense heat of the sun. The sweat dousing your body is a friendly reminder that you're staying in shape, too. The views nature has to offer are so worth it all.

4. No school

It feels so good to have a solid sleeping schedule and not do 3-4 hours of homework a night.

5. My social life

Gong to school full-time, working, and doing other things ( laundry, shopping, etc) make having a social life difficult. Summer is great because you can finally catch up with all of you're close friends for more than an hour at a time. Making new memories is always a blast.

6. Concerts, concerts, and more concerts

There are so many amazing artists that have concerts going on in the summer time. You already know I go to all of them. They're so good for the soul.

7. Driving

Driving in the summer is a lot different than driving in the winter. In the winter time, the roads are covered in salt and snow, you have to wait for your car warm up before you go anywhere, you have to worry about black ice, the sun is always blinding you, and you have to mentally prepare yourself in order to get out of your car because it is so toasty in there and sub-zero outside. In the summer, though, there is so much scenery to see, the top/ windows are down and you can feel the warmth of summer kissing your skin, the music is blaring and you're singing lyrics so loud that you and you're best friend in the passenger seat can barely breath, and you're driving with no specific destination in mind, but wherever you go, you'll have an adventure for sure (see number 3).

8. Happiness

Everyone tends to be more miserable and grouchy in the winter time. Summer is coming soon, stay positive!

9. The Fourth of July

It's my favorite holiday. Cook outs, relaxing by the pool, family time, laughter, memories, but more importantly, fireworks (they're so breathtaking).

10. Sunsets

Sunsets paint the sky brilliantly. Purples, pinks, and oranges kiss the horizon and play hide-and-seek behind the clouds. They're breath-taking and poetic.

Don't worry guys. We'll be around the campfire with s'mores before you know it. Keep your heads up (and warm) until summer is back!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
