How Having Pets Changes Your Life, Including What You Say Daily

10 Things Every Pet Parent Has Said

As someone who has always had a pet in their life, I am absolutely obsessed with my animals. My dog and my cat have been around since I was in elementary school and now as a college senior I still couldn't be more in love with them. I find myself saying many things around my animals, but there are some things I say more than others.

1.) "How's my baby doing?"

I think I ask my pets this more than anything else. When I ask that in front of other people the responses I primarily get are either "Do you think they understand you?" or "Are you waiting for an answer?" They definitely can understand humans in various ways and no, but I do think one day they will be able to talk and it will probably be awesome.

2.) "Put (insert dog or cat's name here) on the phone!"

When I'm away at college I miss my animals like nobody's business. Therefore when I'm on the phone with my parents I often request to "speak" with my animals at some point in the call. My cat will meow back to me but with my dog it's usually either licking the phone or my parents telling me he's looking around trying to find me. I just love my babies!

3.) "What are you eating?!"

This one every pet owner has said at least one time today alone. My dog mostly is the receiver of this question as he is face first in the trash. He'll try to casually walk away, trying to hide the fact that he is obviously chewing on something. It's never something that can harm him, but it just makes me question his judgment as a dog.

4.) "You wanna play?"

Whenever I say this and want to play with my dog or cat, they are not interested. They would much rather continue their daily lounging around the house. Then when I am just lounging around the house, that's when they want to play! My dog will bring me a toy and I will oblige, lazily and reluctantly. Pets just have their own agendas.

5.) "Look at the other puppies and kitties!"

Whether I'm inside with my cat watching tv or outside walking with my dog, the moment there's another animal I want my pet to be aware of them. I'll point to the cat on tv and say to my cat "look! Another one of you" and she will have no idea what I'm saying. Dogs are more aware when they're outside and physically seeing them and in this case I truly want my dog to have a dog friend. They would be adorable besties.

6.) "Come here (insert cute or funny pet nickname here)"

I have too many nicknames for my two animals that they probably don't even know I'm talking to them half the time. When I give nicknames it is out of endearment, so that just proves I love my animals more than most humans. They deserve all my love and me nicknaming them is one of the ways I show it.

7.) "You always know when I need a good cuddle"

Animals have the best instincts when it comes to their owners. Whenever I come home stressed and sad, my animals are always there to cheer me up. They come close to me and immediately make me feel loved. They sense my troubles and do their best to make them disappear, even if it's just by being there.

8.) "No you can't have any food...okay maybe a little bit..."

The constant struggle of not feeding your pets scraps from your meals is sometimes too much. I know I shouldn't, but their cute faces and begging combined, I give in way too easily. Especially with my cat because she can get up in my face while I'm eating unlike my dog who cannot jump onto the table. I want them to be happy and if a bite of my food is what they want, I will allow it.

9.) "Come here....wait why are you walking away?"

This one is targeted more at cats as they do whatever they want whenever they want. They will snuggle with you when they want but if they do not, they will more than happily walk away from you even if they are being called.

10.) "I love you so much, you weirdo!"

No matter what antics pets get up to or how much they weird you out, you love them with all your heart. They are your babies and you are lucky to have them in your lives. We choose them as pets, but in a way they also choose us too. I am lucky to have been chosen by my little loves. Animals are truly amazing creatures and they love us just as much as we love them.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
