Thank goodness for Great Clips, the ever-reliable and fairly inexpensive hair salon chain, without which poor college students like me would probably not get a haircut every 3-6 months. If you're a loyal Great Clips customer (or if you've at least visited a salon within the past year), it's likely that you'll recognize a few of the following trademarks of everyone's favorite chain salon:

1. Excessive pressure to check in online (just download the app already!)

I can't tell you how many times I have been asked "did you check in online?" by Great Clips staff. I broke down last year and finally downloaded the app, but I do miss the simpler days when you could just check in at the salon upon arrival.

2. Waiting half an hour for a haircut that lasts an average of seven minutes

I wouldn't recommend visiting the salon if you're on a time crunch.

3. The collection of worn-out hairstyle magazines in the foyer

We've all browsed through the wide array of 90's-era men's haircuts a time or two.

4. Watching proud parents take photos of their child's first haircut

It's so fun watching kids get their first haircuts on those huge booster seats at your local Great Clips.

5. The uber-fancy hair products that are somehow always on sale

Maybe someday I'll be able to afford the clearance shampoos and pomade wax, but not today.

6. No matter what you tell your hairstylist, you somehow always end up with layers

If there's one thing I hate, it's ending up with layers in my hair...especially if I didn't ask for them!

7. The overhead speakers are always playing some variety of bubbly pop music

I'll admit, the Great Clips experience wouldn't be the same without hearing old-school Katy Perry music during my haircut.

8. The $8.99 haircut coupons that only come around a few times a year

There's nothing like a discount haircut to motivate me to head to the salon and trim those dead ends.

9. The overall laid-back environment and fun-loving hairstylists

Who doesn't love feeling right at home when you get a haircut?

10. That refreshed feeling you get when you leave the salon with a new 'do

It's true—almost nothing compares to the instant relief of cutting 3 inches of dead and lifeless hair off of your shoulders.

Whether you're a bi-annual customer or a monthly Great Clips addict, we can all agree that Great Clips has something for everyone to love.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
