From when we were little girls prancing around the house in costumes to the adults we are now, we tend to find ourselves drifting off, dreaming of that oh-so-close future ahead. We try to imagine what kind of people we are going to be, what kind of things will we do, and how life will turn out. Most girls have the same fantasies and the similar thoughts. Here are ten things that many of us have fantasized about since those diaper days:
1. Being a princess, mermaid, or fairy
I vividly remember wanting to be a mermaid or princess when I was in preschool. I was always playing with a doll or dressing up in wigs and costumes because I had myself convinced that I was going to be a mermaid.
2. Marrying Prince Charming
Every girl dreamed of their knight in shining armor coming to save the day. As a child, it was all about how handsome he was and if he could make you a princess. Now as an adult, it's all about if he can pay his half of the rent and if he can treat you as an equal.
3. Do I want kids?
As younger kids, this probably didn't cross our minds too much. We thought babies were the cutest things ever, but nothing more than that. As we get older, we start to really imagine how we would handle a baby. I used to get so bummed out about friends who said they didn't like kids, but hey, kids aren't for everyone.
4. If I have kids, what will I name them?
As a kid, I was obsessed with "The Little Mermaid." I was so adamant that I would name my kids would have names like Ariel, Ursula, and Sebastian, and now I have lists a mile long of possible kids' names (I have a particular requirement that my kids have to have a 'k' in their name).
5. What kind of job will I have?
Most kids develop several thoughts for future careers. I had dreams of being a firewoman, a veterinarian, a zookeeper, a princess, a teacher, etc. And that's only a few. As adults, we still might have particular career aspirations, but now we are seeing dollar signs!
6. Being a grandparent
Okay, so this one is a little less of what children look at, but I know as an adult, I have definitely had this thought. Am I a more traditional "nana" or am I more of a "glam-ma?"
7. Housing
Some kids dream of living in a castle. Others dream of living in a small cottage in a secluded location. What kind of house is fit for me?
8. Education
I'm sure if you ask most kids about wanting to do more school after high school, most of them would probably turn tail and run away. Others have fairly high aspirations. As these children grow and mature, the aspirations become clearer.
9. Being a celebrity
Kids can be so dramatic sometimes. It only makes sense that some of them would want to be actors. Others can never stay quiet for more than two seconds, so it wouldn't be much of a surprise if they wanted to become a singer. As adults, the luxuries that come with being a celebrity would be great, but I don't think many adults would enjoy a camera being shoved in their faces all the time.
10. Being happy!
In the end, almost everyone should be able to tell you that they aspire to be happy. Nothing else matters as long as they can live a happy and cheerful life.
