Everyone remembers when in elementary school right before Thanksgiving. Everyone would trace their hand onto a piece of paper and then make their hand into a cut-out turkey. On each 'feather' of the turkey, everyone would write one thing that they were thankful for. Fast forward to today, with being a sophomore in college, even though we don't make arts n' crafts and have the yearly Thanksgiving feast in our classroom that everyone looked forward to each year, I still reflect on the past year and the things I am thankful for. Regardless if I am 3, 5, fifteen, nineteen or older, I still will find things each year to be thankful for. No matter the significance, I am thankful for everything from scented candles and Netflix to my family and friends. I am thankful for everything my life has handed me, and these ten things I list are only the beginning. I hope everyone has a safe and happy Thanksgiving, and you get to spend it with the ones you love and cherish most.
1. My Family
Although only my mom and sister are pictured, I am thankful to have such an amazing family that loves and supports me in everything that I do.
2. My Boyfriend Jack
Although the distance sucks, I am thankful for my boyfriend's love and support every single day. I'm also thankful for our very reputable snap streak (484 days), our fun adventures we go on, and all the memories we've made over the past year and a half.
3. My Dog Sadie
Even if my dog is the biggest brat, and some say she gets all her sass from me, I am thankful for my cute and snuggly dog Sadie. It kills me every time I have to leave to go back to school and her sad puppy dog eyes come out as I walk out the door, but seeing how excited she gets whenever I come home makes it all worth it.
4. My School
I am blessed every day that I get to go to a university that I love, and that I get the opportunity to achieve a degree in a field that I love. Illinois State is the best place for me, and I am thankful everyday that I have the chance to succeed there in all of my classes and activities I'm involved in.
5. My Sigma Alpha Sorority Sisters
I love my sorority with all of my heart, joining and becoming a sister has definitely been the best part of college thus far. I've met my best friends through Sigma Alpha, and I'm thankful I have all these women that I can call my sisters.
6. My Roomies
I feel like most of the horror stories from college come from a bad roommate experience. I am thankful that I've met 3 great friends out of living together in the dorms. We liked each other so much we decided that two years in the dorms at Illinois State are even better than one. I'm thankful that my roommates will put up with all sides of me and we are all still speaking to one another after living together for four months.
7. The Ability to Travel
I'm thankful for the ability to get to travel to amazing cities like San Diego, especially to the beach because living in Illinois, I wasn't blessed with a view like this every single day.
8. The Agriculture Industry
Being a part of FFA for four years and now majoring in Agriculture Communications and Leadership, I am thankful for the agriculture industry as a whole, and all of the opportunities that it has given me this far. Also, I am thankful for the farmers that bless us with all the food that we eat this holiday season, as well as their hard work every single day to feed the growing United States population.
9. My New Found Love for Dunkin' Donuts Iced Coffee
Thank you, Dunkin', for getting me through long car drives to Indianapolis, helping me wake up before my (super early) 11 o'clock class, or just making my Snapchat story a little more interesting.
10. My Job at Kohl's
Although I may complain about my lack or overabundant amount of hours (depending on the week), I am thankful that I have a job that I love, along with co-workers and managers that make me love coming to work every day.
