10 Thank-Yous To My College Roommate

Because honestly, I couldn't get through a semester without you

10 Thank-Yous To My College Roommate

Living with another person, even if they’re your best friend, can take a lot of effort-- especially if you want to remain friends. I couldn’t have asked for a better roommate, and as I hear all of these horror stories about friends fighting and not talking after living together, it makes me want to take a step back and say thank you. Thank you:

1. For making sure I went to class

Especially when it's cold or raining, crawling out of my warm nest of a bed felt like running a marathon. Tough love is one of the best parts about living with someone, because when you get comfortable enough with each other, dragging them out of bed to make sure they make it to 8 a.m. statistical analysis class is just another part of the morning routine.

2. For always dancing with me, even when you were tired

Dancing like no one is watching and dancing like your roommate is watching are the same thing. One of the best ways to get out stress or aggression: blast some Ke$ha or Lana Del Rey and go nuts.

3. For being my go-to Halloween costume partner

Not to mention being able to pick through each others' closets, so we don't even have to buy anything new!

4. For checking on me and making sure I got home safely

Your roommate is usually the only person who knows where you are at least 95 percent of the time, so if anything happens and you miss a beat, they'll be the first to notice and check in to see if you're okay.

5. For listening to me rant for hours on end

Ranting. Ranting is so important, and it's so much easier to yell about things to someone who already knows the backstory, and probably shares your pet peeves

6. For leaving love notes around the room when you knew I was stressed

Sometimes a little bit of love can make a huge impact, and it's an excuse for a huge bear hug the next time you see your lovely roommate.

7. For dragging me to the gym

Just like they know where you are, roommates also know where you aren't. Thank you for making me be a better person and for physically dragging me out the door to the track, because without you, I would absolutely be home watching Netflix at all times.

8. For encouraging me in whatever I was doing

Roommates also function as personal cheerleaders. You have an exam? I'll quiz you. There's an audition tomorrow? I'll read lines with you. You have an entire cake? I can definitely help you finish that.

9. For always being down to have a wine night in

Because you just can't ignore the five essential food groups: pasta, coffee, cheese, chocolate and WINE.

10. For not judging any of my weird habits, and for always letting me be myself

When you live with someone, you can hide NOTHING. Eventually, they'll walk in the room at 2 a.m. and you'll be wrapped up in your spongebob snuggie, covered in the popcorn you've been eating while Netflix is queuing the 9th consecutive episode of Gossip Girl. But that's okay. Good roommates will grab a snuggie and join you, and there will never be judgement.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
