If you live in a small town, there's no doubt you can relate to these 10 things. Most big city folk would gasp at the ideas of some of these signs, but they're really all too normal to us who grew up in a small town.
1. Your Doors are Always Unlocked.
This seems almost unreal to those from big cities, but in small towns it's really quite normal to never lock your doors. We trust and watch out for our neighbors, so there isn't any reason for us to worry about someone breaking into our home.
2. It's Normal to See a Tractor or Buggy On the Road.
Living in small town, it happens all to much that we get stopped or slowed down by a buggy or a tractor driving down the road. These are one of the many problems that occur when you live in a town surrounded by fields.
3. People Give Directions Based on Town Landmarks.
People always give directions based on known places in the town such as, "turn right at the gas station and go all the way down past the rail road tracks, then take a left at the old hospital." Who needs street names?
4. When People Ask Where You're From You Name the Nearest Big City.
No matter how far away it is, you always say your town, followed by the closest big city. "Where are you from?" "I'm from Decatur...it's about 25-30 minutes south of Fort Wayne."
5. You See at Least Three People You Know Every Time You Go Out.
It's inevitable. Whether you are going grocery shopping, going to get gas, or just stopping by the bank, you are practically guaranteed to see people you know.
6. You Went to High School With the Same People you Went to Grade School With.
You didn't have a very large high school class, and your town only had one high school, so the transition from middle school to high school was rather easy because you know most of the people you went to school with since kindergarten.
7. It's a Huge Deal When a New Restaurant Opens
You don't have a whole lot of choices when it comes to places to eat so when a new restaurant opens up, especially a big franchised one, it's a big deal!
8. Your Teachers Confused You with Your Siblings
Chances are you got called by your brother's or sister's name a lot in school. There's a good chance many of your teachers even taught your parents when they went to school!
9. You Had a Bowling Alley and, Well That's It.
The coolest place, and perhaps the only place, to hang out was the bowling alley! Even the smallest of towns normally have this, and that just about all the entertainment you're going to find.
10. You Have Annual Festivals That are Completely Unknown to Others.
There are all sorts of annual parades and festivals in your town with weird names, no one else would even guess what they are. "Are you coming to the Calithumpian Parade?" "What the heck is that?" "Only the best annual Halloween festival ever!"
