10 Struggles Of Being A Tall Girl

Being a giraffe is great. . . When you're with other giraffes.

Business Insider

It's not always fun being a tall female. Although it has some benefits, the annoying comments we always hear make the struggles out-weigh those. People stare at you when you enter any room, everyone makes the same comments about wanting your legs or how they're, "so jealous"; they don't see the many struggles that come with being a human giraffe. Pants are never quite long enough, maxi skirts and dresses are out of the question, men get intimidated, you hit your head on a lot of things, and more.

1. Cars Are A Nightmare

Whether it's the fact that the seats don't go far back enough in the front, you're stuck in the backseat with -10 leg space or your heads brushing against the car ceiling when you rock a messy bun; it can be a frustrating time.

2. The Laws Of Heels

When you reach a certain height, there's all of a sudden something wrong with you wearing heels. People like to make comments such as, "Don't you have enough height as is?" or they look at you up and down and just go, "Seriously?" Fellow Amazonians: if someone talks down your strut this way, just look down at them with pride from your high perch.

3. The Dating World Is Rough

Let's face it: a lot of boys are intimidated by tall women. I call them boys because clearly they're fighting some insecurities if it's scary to date a girl that's the same height as them, even if they're a perfect match. Stand tall girls, our 6' 11" prince will show up some day.

4. Pictures With Friends Can Be Awkward AF

Unless your friends with all fellow Amazonians, picture time is a painful time. You know your place is always in the back row (has been since 1st grade class picture day), or dead center as some kind of height anchor for everyone else. It's always great when people want to take a "Raising the Bars" type of picture, or when the dreaded Sorority Squat pose has to be held for multiple retakes.

5. Everyone Asks If You Play Basketball

If you actually do play basketball: awesome for you! Way to be an athlete. I have nothing against athletes, I was one for over a decade. What I hate is people assuming that I've played this one sport just because I'm 5' 11", when in reality I can't even dribble a basketball. So please, everyone, stop assuming tall people are all Harlem Globetrotters.

6. Maxi Dresses Are NEVER Long Enough

While I have been fortunate enough to find 1 maxi dress and 1 maxi skirt that are long enough for me (in my 20 years of life) they were not easy finds. I consider them treasures in my closet because of their rarity. This trend needs to go out of style, and fast before I have to start making all of my clothes to be long enough and "in style."

7. Skirts Always Look "Slutty Short"

People who know me, know that I don't like dressing "slutty" or having private areas hanging out all over the place. However, when your legs are over three feet long: it's hard for shorts and skirts to not look or feel, "too short."

8. Everyone Says You Should Model and You're Just Like...

I've studied model statistics before: the average female model is 5' 11" and weighs under 130 lbs. I don't know about the rest of you Amazonians: but I'll choose pizza over a handful of carrots for dinner any day.

9. Mirror Selfies? Yeah, Those Don't Happen

Don't even get me started on "full length" mirrors that always manage to cut off my head unless I stand five feet or further away from them.

10. You Can Reach Some Unusual Places

I guess this one is more of a positive than a negative. You never have to take the step stool out or worry about if you can reach snack foods at the top of the pantry. Although your head may hit something in the process.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
