It's a Sunday morning. You're browsing Pinterest looking for cute puppy Halloween costumes. You see all of these artsy people doing artsy things. It really does not look too hard. You wonder if these mysterious crafty people were born with this talent or if they taught themselves. You say jealously through a mouth full of granola bar and coffee, "They probably taught themselves. I mean there's instructions right here!" Then, you have this thought-the thought that will start a whirlwind of emotions and consume the next 12 hours of your life:
"I Can Do it Myself!"
1. Inspiration
You decide your dog will be the most handsome little man in the neighborhood if you make him a bumblebee costume. Forget the $20 store bought costume! That's expensive! And it's not made with love!
2. Excitement
You think to yourself, "I could totally do this all the time. I'm going to get good at this and make costumes for all the neighborhood dogs! FORGET COLLEGE! I'M GONNA START A BUSINESS!"
3. Planning
Okay so you will need to make a list. You will need glue, thread, a sewing machine, fabric, a burger (because you'll be too busy DIYing to stop to make lunch!), and maybe some googly eyes.
4. Shopping
So, you get to the store and see all of the aisles of colors, fabrics, and decor. You need one of EVERYTHING. You come home with three shopping carts full of thread, yarn, paint, a blanket, some cute cardboard thing that you're not sure what to do with but it was on sale, and an easel (because painting is next weeks project).
But, you forgot the fabric.
5. Creating
You get back from the store a second time and get to work. You feel great about yourself! The project is coming along nicely-Oops the sewing machine snagged.
6. Contemplating a Do-Over
You pull and turn and yell at the machine, but the costume has a hole in it. You're ready to give up. Maybe you'll start over-No starting over means you have to reset the machine and cut out all of the fabric.
7. Fixing
After you contemplate starting over, you decide it would be best to fix the hole. You sew the hole back together. You can hardly tell! Your dog will still be so cute! You're a regular Mr. Fix-it! Until, it gets stuck again.
8. Anger
That's it. You're done. You're throwing the crumpled mess away. Never ever ever crafting again.
9. "It's not so bad."
As you're holding the floppy pile of fabric over the trash can you realize that it really isn't so bad. If you squint one eye and turn around, you can't even see the three holes and the coffee stain!
10. Displaying
It may not be the beautiful Pinterest craft you dreamed of, but it's your creation. You're not even sure it'll fit your dog, but if not, you'll proudly post pictures of it all over Instagram with #DIY #Crafty #OnlyTook30Min
And Hey, either way, your dog will still be the most handsome little man in the neighborhood.
