Summer is the feel-good time of the year, spontaneity, relaxation and simple pleasures galore! The best songs for that kind of season are upbeat but allow you to kick back, at the same time. With that mentality in mind, here are ten songs I've been feeling lately.
1. "We Are We Are" Charlotte Sometimes and Today Kid
If you were a fan of Jason Mraz and Colbie Caillat's duet, "Lucky," this is the song you've been waiting for. Their voices beautifully blend together to make this song a MUST on your summer playlist.
2. "Skies" Cattle & Cane
I'd like to thank a friend with incredible music taste for this one. (Quick shout out to Bekah Richin) This song is the perfect mix of easy going with a catchy upbeat chorus...and I just can't get enough of it!
3. "Forest Fires" Axel Flóvent
Flóvent is from Akureyri, Northern Iceland and he produces the music and lyrics to all of his songs...and man he produces mighty fine lyrics. Here is a sample lyric from this song, "If you could follow your heart gently, there wouldn’t be this mess." If you enjoy this tune, also check out his song "Ghost."
4. "The River" Sam Garett
5. "Real Love Baby" Father John Misty
Misty's song is your go-to summertime tune about the search for "real love."
6. "Lisa Sawyer" Leon Bridges
Only slightly better than his incredibly soothing, "Smooth Sailing" (which just appeared on President Obama's favorite songs playlist). Leon Bridges is such a class act and this song proves it.
7. "Still Sane" Lorde
I love this girl way to much not to put at least one of her songs on here. This just happens to be the one I'm feeling the most right now.
8. "Gemini Feed" Banks
Though some of the lyrics are a bit depressing, the chorus makes up for that by being uplifting and extremely catchy. Also, this is a rockin' lyric from the chorus, "And to think you would get me to the altar, like I follow you around like a dog that needs water."
9. "Drive" Oh Wonder
Though at its core this song is about heartbreak, the lyrics also describe how a long drive is a perfect escape from one's problems. For instance, this line really resonates with me; "Sat back with the window down, eighty an hour and the radio loud, the same songs with the same old rhymes."
