1. When people ask where you are from you name the largest city close to you because no one will know your town anyways.
And when they do ask specifically, 9 times out of 10 they will say "hmm, never heard of it.." well yeah I could see that coming.
2. You never had to make plans on Friday nights.
If there was a high school football game, you better be there or will be getting calls from people seeing if you are okay because you aren't there.
3. You get excited when new restaurants open.
You only have McDonalds, a local ice cream place, and a pizza joint. Everything else is at least 30 minutes away if you hit every green light.
4. You don't get mad when you have to go 15 mph down a two-lane back road because there is a tractor in front of you.
5. Everyone knows everyone.
The people you graduate with are the same people you went to kindergarten with. If something big happens, everyone in town will know by tomorrow morning guaranteed.
6. You can expect to see yourself in the local newspaper more times than you can count, especially if you are in a sport.
Basically, if you do anything worthwhile be ready for that glamorous candid photo on the front page and grandma calling to see if you have seen it yet.
7. A typical party was either in a barn, garage, or at a bonfire.
Surprisingly, they're way better than house parties; it doesn't get as hot.
8. Instead of going to the mall you would hang out in empty parking lots and go to WalMart just for fun.
9. Fourth of July was the best holiday.
Everyone in town, and I do mean every single person, would gather at the elementary school and set off fireworks along with the main fireworks the fire department set off.
10. You have one stoplight in the whole town.
No joke, we have ONE stop light.
When I was little I would always dream of what it would be like to live in places like New York or California, but as I grow older I realize living in a small town was the best aspect of my childhood. My small town shaped me into who I am today and every time I go back to visit it feels as if I never left (mainly because everything and everyone are the exact same).
