Say it with me, “I am a compulsive list-maker and I am proud.”
If you are anything like me, you have taken list-making and turned it into an art-form. You make lists of tasks you need to complete, books you want to read, items you want to buy, people you always forget to call and beyond. List making never ends for people like us. We write down, and we cross out. We get stuff done, but not without the help of our handy lists. Here are some of the tell-tale signs that you might be a compulsive list-maker.
1. You started young.
You have been creating lists since you received your first agenda book in elementary school. List-making has been a part of your life for countless years. It is a habit that you have had since you were young and have carried with you throughout your life.
2. List making quells your anxiety.
Creating lists can be relaxing and meditative. List-making can help you prioritize, and ensures that you remember to complete everything that you had intended to. Well-channeled urges to create lists can result in success and peace of mind.
3. Every one of the notes on your phone is a list.
There is nothing like a spur of the moment list-making session in the notes app on your iPhone.
4. You make lists at night of all the things you must do the next day.
Having trouble sleeping? No problem. You can spend time making a list of every thing you want to get done tomorrow! You may be tired, but at least you will be productive.
5. You add tasks that you have completed to your list in order to receive the satisfaction of crossing the task off.
There is nothing more satisfying than checking off a task on your to-do list. If you add a task you've completed to your to-do list in order to get that feeling of satisfaction, you may be a compulsive list-maker.
6. You cross off a task the moment you complete it.
If you didn't cross it off your to-do list, did you actually complete the task?
7. You organize your lists (especially grocery lists).
The first task on your to-do list is to organize your to-do list.
8. All of your iPhone storage is taken up by list making apps
Google Keep, Remember the Milk, Clear, Pocket Lists – just a few of the apps you sacrifice all of your precious iPhone storage for.
9. Where there is a workout, there is a list.
Because making a list of all the exercises you want to complete is basically exercise, right?
10. You get stuff done
We might spend excessive time making lists, but somehow we manage to complete almost every task, read almost every book and meet almost all of the deadlines we intended to.
Happy list-making!
