Often described as a sleepy "bedroom community" in Northern Orange County, CA, Placentia is 20 minutes from Disneyland and the beach and is the heart of suburbia. Here are 10 signs you're from this "pleasant place to live".
1. You've lost count of the amount of times you've had to correct people not from Orange County that its Placentia not placenta
Placentia is derived from the Latin word for "pleasant". Anyone who has gone away for college knows to expect people to ask more than once where you're from or have a confused look on their face. You might even become the girl who's from placenta like me. But technically, aren't we all?
2. You probably went to El Dorado High School or Valencia High School
Although the real question is why two high schools are located 5 minutes away from each other (no, really - exactly 5 minutes), the school rivalry between VHS and EDHS is legendary. The bell game draws the entire community as both school battled it out in the shared Bradford Stadium taking turns being "Home" every other year.
3. You know you're back home when you can see the water tower
Placentia doesn't have much in it other than houses, but the 110 foot tall water tower is the main symbol of our city.
4. Your mouth drools thinking of an Avalon or PK Burgers breakfast
But you go being prepared that by the laws of Avalon, you will run into 4 people you know.
5. You have a love/hate relationship with Yorba Linda
Half of your friends live there, but...its Yorba Linda. They're basically the Eagleton to our Pawnee. Plus their geofilter on snapchat invades half of our city.
6. You've spent a sunny day at Tri-City Park
Fishing, bike-riding, running, picnicking, dog-walking. Tri-City Park is the epitome of social interaction during middle school, and a popular spot for dance pictures. During the summer months, "Concerts in the Park" draw the whole city together.
7. Everyone you know has a Disneyland Pass
Disneyland is a casual activity to do on a lazy Saturday or for a couple hours on a school night. Many of your friends probably work there after high school. And only 20 minutes away, we can hear the Disneyland firework show go off almost every night.
8. You go to Cinema City to see movies even though there are closer theaters
No other movie theater can compare to Cinema City's price. Plus with an In-n-out and Golden Spoon nearby, its the perfect Friday Night Movie spot.
9. Rooting for sports teams can be a little confusing
While Placentia doesn't have a team of its own there are a plethora of surrounding teams to choose from. With options of the Angels, Dodgers, Ducks, Kings, Lakers and Clippers all within driving distance, neighbors become rivals. Hopefully the addition of the Los Angeles Rams will provide Placentia residents at least one team they can all agree upon.
10. You feel like you live in a small town despite its population of 50,000
Placentia holds a small town feel. Whether you think its a bad thing or good thing being able to run into someone you everywhere you go, its an experience that you can't quite match anywhere else. Many a youth have exclaimed they cannot wait to get out of Placentia, but there's nothing quite like coming back to our "pleasant place".
