Each college major has certain things that characterize their program of study, if you are one of the lucky few to call yourself a counseling major you will know exactly what I am talking about.
1. Your friends become seriously concerned that you can read their minds.
Sometimes you even question it a bit yourself.
2. You know your Meyers-Briggs personality profile and your friend's.
If you do not know someone's personality type you try to guess what they are before asking them.
3. You died a little inside each time the professor announced that the new version of the textbook would be used that year.
At $200 a book there were times you just wanted to cry and maybe drop out.
4. You have a lot of practice in being "shock-proof."
You learn this lesson because if you don't your professor may just think up ways to make you regret it.
5. A ten page research paper with 12 scholarly sources? Not a problem for you!
You laugh when people from other majors complain about their five page paper they have to write because for you, that is nothing.
6. You have the best professors around.
They may be a bit unstable at times but in the end you see how truly awesome they are (and secretly hope to be just like them one day).
7. More than once you had a lesson that was exactly what you needed to hear that day.
Sometimes in class you feel like you are the one being counseled.
8. You have diagnosed your friends with a psychological disorder just to annoy them.
Sometimes they just need to be reminded that they are only one step away from needing counseling themselves.
9. You watch children's movies in class so you can learn about the psychology behind them.
"Inside Out" anyone?10. In the end you just really want to know how to help people and hope that someday you will have enough time to sleep.
You can sleep after graduation, right?
We really are a strange bunch but we wouldn't change that for the world.
