I started the first semester of my freshman year tumbling down some stairs, and ended up barely getting by. But that’s not the only regret I have. This whole year I feel like I’ve lived unaffected and unchanged. However, it’s the spring semester! 2016! New year, new semester, so I figured new me! (Maybe. Probably will still stay the same, actually.)
1. Finally lose some weight.
Stereotypical resolution, I know.
I wouldn’t say it’s a gigantic issue, per se, but it’s still something to be concerned about. I’ve been pudgy for as long as I can remember, and it’s seriously about time I put an end to this. Though I can confidently say that I love myself and whatnot, it’s still a source of insecurity for me.
Since it was such a sensitive issue, whenever the topic would come up, I would evade remarks by just shrugging it off. I tried to lose it before -- trust me. Still, my attempts always felt futile, so they never lasted very long. Except, I think this is finally the year I lose it all. I’ve been more concerned over others’ perspectives on the matter, but I really do want to do this for myself, and for the benefit of my own overall health.
2. Study better.
If I had to describe my study habits last semester, it would literally be a joke. I was ecstatic leaving the rigid style of high school education, except I found myself like an overindulged baby crying for such a simplistic lifestyle back. With new freedom and completely different work patterns, though I understood the material, I overestimated myself and underestimated the courses. As a result, I practically just got by by crawling with a broken foot. I can’t let my GPA, my tuition money and precious time to go to waste again like that.
3. Eat better.
Like, literally, the whole entire freaking universe, I love food. I love eating it, I love smelling it and I love taking pretty pictures of it and posting it on Instagram. If anything, food is essentially my soulmate. I know that there are delicious and healthy foods out there (shocker, I know), but I want to try more of it. I will forever love my Kettle potato chips and toasted marshmallows -- I just want to treat my palate to more of a variety of tastes.
4. Brush my teeth religiously.
OK, stop, I do brush my teeth. However, with the crazy hours I’m awake, I feel like I don’t brush them enough. I know, I know -- brushing excessively is bad. Still, an hour after I drink a soda I want to brush the plethora of sugar out of my mouth rather than letting it nestle and make a home in there.
5. Make more friends.
As someone who’s had their ups and downs with friendships, as I’ve gotten older, I realized that it’s really not the quantity, but the quality. I left high school with very, very few true friends -- and by that, I mean friends that you promise to talk to after you graduate – and actually do. I want to make more meaningful friendships. They don’t have to last for forever, as long as the heart’s still there during the time we’re friends.
6. Try to wear contacts.
I’ve been wearing glasses since fifth grade and though I like them, as they mask my uber dark circles, I feel like they hide how I actually look.
7. Join some sports team.
I never thought that this day would come, but I’m seriously considering joining a team. Not only will I get some fun exercise in, but it’s a great way to meet people and try something new, you know? Just being a part of a team sounds like it’ll be both exhilarating, and make some amazing memories. I’ve always wanted to try it once and I don’t want me being horrible at practically all of them to be an excuse for avoiding it. Worse case scenario, I’ll just have to practice harder! On top of that, we pay a fee for athletics in our tuition, so might as well utilize it!
8. Since that’ll probably fail, join some club.
I have very little faith in my sport skills. In addition, I have no idea how intense the sports teams at our school are, and if I’ll be able to last. Though I’m part of one now, I want to join more clubs, or just go to a crazy amount of meetings to visit people and experience them all!
9. Beg someone for a job.
I used to have a job last year, but I had to quit since college was too far away. It’s nice to make my own money so I don’t have to constantly barrage my parents for money for both personal things as well as my tuition. However, no matter where I apply, I’m reliving the difficulties of trying to find a job -- so on to trying to find and beg someone to give me one.
10. Be happy.
I’ll be honest when I say 2015 was really not my year. I’ve always been an (overly, actually) optimistic person, but I really went through some rough patches. To make up for such an unhappy period of my life, I have made it my goal to not live through this year just being lazy and getting by. I want to get out of my comfort zone, feel ridiculed, and try a multitude of new things as well as meet a multitude of people. As always, I started this year kind of funky, but rather than trip over my own shoe, I want to go through this whole entire year with a bang.
