10 Reasons Why You Might Have Senioritis

As December graduation draws nearer, many seniors including myself are counting down the days until we graduate. And I’m infected. I’ve got it bad. Senioritis has taken its toll on me and I don’t see any form of recovery other than a heavy dose of time off. Many of my fellow seniors are suffering from this all --encompassing affliction, but there are several different causes for the infamous senioritis.

1. Apathy. Apathy is when you just don’t care any more at all about anything. A paper is due soon? Who cares I’ve written hundreds of these before. Why is this one any different? Why does this one matter? Oh yea, it doesn’t. Nothing matters.

2. Anxiety. What does the future hold? I don’t know. Nothing is certain. Everything is up in the air and I’m freaking out about it. There is nothing I can do to prepare and it’s all gonna go wrong.

3. Excitement. THE FUTURE IS GOING TO BE AWESOME!!! I have a job lined up, I got my ring by spring and post-grad life is going to be so much better than undergrad life. I CAN’T WAIT FOR IT TO BEGIN!

4. Lack of classes. You. Are. The. Worst. Somehow you scheduled your classes so that your last semester is cake. You don’t have classes Monday or Friday and the three classes you have in the middle of the week are a joke. You’re always around looking for someone to hang with because you have nothing else to do.

5. Exhaustion. You have been giving your all for the past 4 years and you have nothing left to give. You were involved in all sorts of organizations, you double majored and somehow you still kept in touch with all your friends. You deserve a medal. Or a nap. Or two naps.

6. You’re overwhelmed. My Senior Seminar paper has to be how long? And I have two research papers due, I have to look for jobs, and apply to grad school? This is just ridiculous. I’m just gonna do nothing for a little while.

7. Nostalgia. Everywhere you go invokes a new memory. Wow that’s where I lived my freshman year! And that building? That’s where I failed my first test and had a mental breakdown. Wow those were the days I’m gonna miss it so much.

8. Wrong major. So you come in as a freshman oozing confidence, knowing exactly what you want to do with your life. You even have a significant other that you for sure are going to marry. Then two years later, you’re single and you realize that what you thought you wanted as a career isn’t for you but it’s too late to change majors. You’re just here for the degree.

9. Grad School. So for whatever reason you decided you need more education. So you applied and got accepted. Why does undergrad matter anymore? Take a break and get ready for the next three years of significantly harder school.

10. All of the above. There are so many reasons for you not to care about school anymore. One second your pumped for the future, and the next second, you’re terrified. You’re classes might be easy but that doesn’t mean you’re not tired. Whatever you’re reason is for having senioritis is stick it out. We are so close to being done. We can do it. I believe in us.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
