Dear awesome, bold, intelligent, boss lady, college girl,
You know what? College can be tough sometimes. For me, college is kind of like that awkward stage in middle school where you have some kind of idea as to what you want to be when you grow up, but you’re not really sure, and you’re basically just in construction because you’re not quite the ‘you’ that ‘you’ want to be yet. You really want to lose five pounds, but you also want to eat pizza and watch the bachelor with your friends. It’s all just kind of weird, but, you’re getting through it, and that’s why you deserve some self love!
What is self-love?
"Self-love is a noun meaning, 'regard for one's own well-being and happiness' (chiefly considered as a desirable rather than narcissistic characteristic)"
Dictionary.com
Why should I "love myself"?
I'll give you 10 good reasons...
1. You deserve the best.
And you are the best! Self-love is a good kind of love. Everyone tells you “You can’t truly love another person until you love yourself,' but sometimes loving your complicated and totally flawed self can be a difficult task! You compare yourself to others, or you want things you know you can’t have, and then you wonder why you’re not happy. It’s totally normal to compare yourself to others and want what others have, but if you really try, you can do those things a little less. I believe that small victories are the key to success. It’s ok to strive for some self-improvement, but don’t confuse that with self-destruction. Try to be the best version of you, because you are awesome!!
2. God made you, so you must be something special.
“Because you are precious in my sight and honored, and because I love you, I will give men in return for you and peoples in exchange for your life. Fear not for I am with you” Isaiah 43:3-5
The King has spoken and He says He’s willing to exchange you for men; need I say more??
3. You eat healthy food...sometimes.
You really wanted a burger, but you ordered a salad - not to be skinny, or for some boy, but because you know that you need you vegetables because your body is a temple. You know when to #treatyourself and when to treat your body to some good ole healthy cooking. So girl, keep doing you're thing and making good choices for your body. You deserve it!
4. You go to class.
Those early morning lectures are no joke, and you should feel good about yourself because you made it to all of your classes this week… well, all of the important ones! Keep making the most of your education sister, it will pay off in the end!
5. You Workout.
Class, homework, social life, sleep, and gym?? How do you do it?? You should be so proud of yourself for hitting the gym and working out those muscles of yours. YOU LOOK GOOD!
6. On top of all of that you have a job or a hobby…or you’re a nursing major and you don’t have either, but what you do have is more homework.
School by itself is a full time job. You not only go to school, but you also have a job. You have goals and dreams and a vision, and you’re working for it both in the classroom as well as in the real world. You’re actually superwomen.
7. You’re pretty & smart.
You’re naturally a beautiful girl inside and out. Sometimes you even get ready, do your hair, put on some make up, and wear some clothes that match - you’re stunning! And all of that work us girls put in to look good takes time and effort and you deserve some applause. If a man is not going to appreciate you for how awesome you are and the time you put in to be that awesome, you don’t sweat it because you can love yourself! You handle your busy, and you look good doing it. You’re a smart, sophisticated lady and you should be proud!
8. You’re a great friend.
Being a girl is draining, and when our well of happiness and positivity is completely barren, we look to our friends to fill us back up even though their well is empty too. You’re supportive of your friends, their triumphs, their relationships, their failures, and their breakups; you’re always there for your girls, and sometimes you need to be there for yourself too!
9. You’ve gotten through bad days.
When it rains it pours. We’ve all felt it. But you have muscled through it, and kept a smile on your face, even though you really wanted to scream at your stubborn professor, cry in your car while listening to Taylor Swift, and rip your computer in half…but you didn’t and that’s what counts! You’re a survivor girl, give yourself a hug!!
10. You know more than you used to.
Every little good or not so good thing that has happened to you in the past, has taught you something and has made you the spectacular girl you are today. Take note of that wisdom and use it in confidence that you can accomplish anything now because you’ve gotten through every obstacle in your past. Go fourth and make your life great girl!
