Summer....warm, sunny, friends, family, vacation, happy. Those are the words that I would use to describe summer in my eyes. Summer brings this wave of smiles and happiness that you don't always see during the school season. There are many things that make this time of year the greatest ever.
The wave of music festivals and concerts that come around during the nicest time of the year. Everyone I know loves music, all types of music. Rap, country, EDM, pop; I guarantee that there is a concert somewhere close that will offer one of the above. The vibes that you get from going to music festivals and one person concerts is impossible to describe. These places are the happiest places in the world.
Friends coming back together from spending months apart at different schools. I personally have quite a few friends that go to different schools and it really is hard sometimes. You don't have some of those people around all the time anymore and you start to miss it. Once May comes around everyone starts to return home and the fun times start again. Summer is full of "fun times with friends."
Traveling has always been a big part of summer for me. I nearly have traveled every single summer since I was born. In fact the summer after I was born I got to spend a few weeks in the mountains in colorado! I actually have got to travel a lot of places which I'm very thankful for. Not many people can say that they have traveled to 10% of the world.
Exploring would definitely be my favorite activity. Yes, you can explore at any time of the year, but the best time is summer time. Whether you go 10 minutes away or a few hours away, there will always be something to explore. My friends and I have always been about going on hikes random days in the summer or even going on a long bike ride. Exploring is the easiest thing to do, so why not take advantage of the opportunity.
Family is one of the most important things in my life. It is definitely hard that I can't see my family as much now that I am at school. The good thing about summer is that I get to see my family all the time. Family does in fact include my two dogs. Summer would be the same without any of them.
The Indiana State Fair is one of the greatest places on this planet. If you like anything fried or the sketchiest rides definitely hit up the state fairgrounds outside of downtown. It is definitely an experience that everyone needs to have. Go buy a corn dog and some fried Oreos and take a ride on the carousel. The state fair only comes around once a year so don't pass it by!
The Indy 500 is definitely something that I would say makes Indiana a better place in the summer. I have gone the past two years and it has been the best time. Music, racing, and a lot of very drunk Indianians. It definitely makes great people watching to say the least. People from everywhere to come celebrate this tradition in good old Nap town.
Laying in the sun is one of the things that I miss the most during winter. I love to be warm but honestly sun gives you the energy that you need to start the day. Good old healthy energy. Yes, I can lay in bed with my sunglasses on and headphones in acting as if I was on the beach or at the pool, but no why would I ever do that.
Bonfires are some of my favorite memories with my friends. The whole scene at a bonfire is a great sight. Smores, music and friends; how could it get any better? If you have no house to hang out inside at and nothing else to do put some chairs around the fire and roast some marshmallows.
Transition is another word that I would use to describe summer. Summer is the break in between two school years that are most likely two totally different experiences. Now that I am getting older, each year that goes by is almost like a new chapter in my life. Summer gives you that time to have fun and be with your friends before you move on to the next part of your life.
To me, every part of summer is great. Getting out of school and having months to not worry about turning in an assignment is a huge breath of fresh air and it really does give you some time to figure yourself out. Every summer should be a new experience so this summer make it the greatest one yet.
