The Kardashians are sometimes considered the royal family of America, yet everyone loves to hate them. It's hard even getting through the day without having to have a discussion with someone about them, especially somewhere like FIT. In fact, last week FIT actually put on a Kardashian's trivia night where the winner took home a prize! But too often, I hear the nastiest comments being said about these people. But I refuse to stoop to the level of hating a family just because they are different than me. Here are 10 reasons why I refuse to hate the Kardashians.
1. They Have Strong Family Values
If nothing else, the Kardashians know what family means. Whether you agree with their ideologies and how they live their lives, the love they have for each other is difficult to put into question. They are so close and comfortable with one another. And outside of filming the show they are always seen together, whether it's going to lunch or having a big family get together. They are the perfect example of a dysfunctional family that has all of the love in the world for one another, and that's really something I look up to.
2. They're Amazing Business Women
People who say that the Kardashians are famous "for no reason" clearly don't know what they are talking about. So what if how they got "discovered" wasn't the most conventional and respectable way to enter the spotlight? They took it and went with it. After Kim's sex tape was released, they could have been in the news for a few weeks and then totally forgotten about. But instead, they used their business skills and intelligence to build strong, amazing careers. They own their own chain of stores, Dash, they are all models, Kylie has her own extremely successful cosmetics line, Kris is a producer and manager, and so, so much more. They took an unfortunate circumstance, worked hard, and branded themselves fantastically so that no one else can even compare.
3. They're Hard Working
This family is full of hardworking individuals. Just because they are rich and live a pretty luxurious life does not mean they are not hard working. All of them are constantly traveling for business, operating their stores, doing interviews, going to shoots, and raising families. And they do it so flawlessly and make it seem effortless. I could not do what they do in a day.
4. They're Beautiful
The Kardashians represent a type of beauty that hasn't always been appreciated. They represent a curvy, full figured type of woman and have helped make it a good thing to embrace your natural body shape. Every single one of them is beautiful. Whether they are wearing makeup or not, whether they are dressed up or in workout clothes, or whether they choose to fill in their lips or not. They shamelessly flaunt their beauty and I think that it is so important.
5. They're Fashion And Beauty Icons
Whether or not you like the Kardashian's style, or view them as fashionable, there is no denying that all of them are fashion icons. What they wear, no matter what it is, makes its way down into mainstream fashion. Not to mention, Kendall is a high fashion model who has walked some of the most famous and influential runways of all time. They, and celebrities like them, have a huge influence on the entire industry. And now they are becoming more and more known as beauty icons. Kim has her classic bold contour look, and Kylie has her own lip product cosmetic line. And again, even if you don't personally like their look, you can't deny their influence.
6. They're Hilarious
This is just so true. The mini fights they have on the show which make us all LOL, their social media presence and basically everything they do is hilarious to me. Khloe could have been a comedian if being a socialite and businesswoman didn't work out for her. Remember when Kim joked about having to give Kanye 80 million dollars? Classic.
7. They Embrace Their Sexuality
The Kardashians are beautiful, sexy women and they know it. They embrace that sexuality and don't let society's gross expectations and judgments get in the way of living their lives. Who cares if Kim and Kourtney are mothers, does that means they are suddenly not humans or women or beautiful anymore? Our sexuality is natural and people take their judgments way too far. Every woman should be confident and proud enough to embrace who they are, and that is something I really admire about them.
8. They're Strangely Relatable
Even though the Kardashians live a dream life and I'm just a broke college student trying to get by day to day, they are all oddly relatable. Their problems are ones that I can understand and compare to my own life, even if I'm nothing like them. Also, same Kendall, same.
9. It's Fun To Love Them
Why would I waste time hating the Kardashians when it's just so much more fun to love them? Their lives are so exciting and awesome and following them, or at least keeping up an interest in them, is a sweet escape from the realities of the real world which I live in day to day. Discussing Kylie's new wig, Kendall's new runway gig, Kim and Kanye's latest pregnancy and whether Scott and Kourtney are getting back together is both a distraction and a guilty pleasure.
10. They're Human
Even if you disagree with the nine other things I listed here, that doesn't change the fact that the Kardashians are all just human like you and me. Yes, they're rich. Yes, they're famous. Yes, they are different. Yes, they have all made mistakes. But they are human beings who were born into the same world that I was. In reality, I don't know these people at all, everything I know is from an outsider's perspective, and frankly, I refuse to hate a person who I don't even know. I have no right to feel that strongly about anyone that I've never met, and never had a problem with. So until the day when one of the Kardashians personally slaps me in the face, I'll keep on loving them and everything they stand for.
