10 Reasons Why I'm Not Excited To Go Home for Break
One Green Planet

Alas we are in the final stretch before break! Soon there will be no more 8am's, cramming for exams, or disgusting dorm showers. The only thing keeping us from a home cooked meal and comfortable bed is finals week. Going home always seems great - until you get there. Here is a list of reasons why I dread the return home.

1. Accountability

"Where are you going?" "Who are you with?" Just a few of the questions you have to prepare to answer on a daily basis. Parents don't understand that in college, we do whatever we want, whenever we want.

2. Curfew

Seriously? Since when do we have to be back by a certain time? If your parents are anything like mine, you won't be out anytime past midnight. Say goodbye to parties and any type of night life whatsoever.

3. Driving

If it's one thing I've gotten used to while at college , it's being able to walk everywhere I need to go. No worries about filling up the gas tank every Sunday. If the curfew didn't kill your chances of having partying, then this sure will. If only sober rides were offered everywhere.

4. Dining Hall Accessibility

Scratch driving. If it's one thing I've gotten used to while at college, it's eating whenever I want. Sure the food may taste like what they feed farm animals, but at least it's convenient.

5. Say Goodbye to Peace

Hopefully by now you have all found your quiet space on campus. A nice place to relax, listen to music, or watch Netflix without being disturbed. Well, for the next month you can kiss that goodbye. Say bye to peace and quiet and hello to nagging parents and loud TV.

6. No Gym

Not the biggest loss, but gains are gains. Also the leading cause for "winter weight".

7. No Insomnia Delivery

Also known as "heaven on wheels", Insomnia delivery might actually be the best thing since sliced bread. Open until 3am every night, it is never the wrong time for freshly baked cookies. This also applies to Wings Over and DP Dough.

8. Looking Presentable

No more rolling out of bed in your flannel pajamas 5 minutes before class starts. We are now going back into the real world where fashion and looking nice is a thing.

9. "How is School Going"

The golden question asked all too often by relatives and awkward friends you lost touch with. Of course you respond school is great even though you're slowly dying on the inside.

10. Running out of Things to do After the First Three Days

Even though these last weeks of college are going to push us past our breaking points, at least it keeps us busy. Say goodbye having plans because you're probably going to spend most of break sitting on the couch watching TV every day. By the end of the first week, I guarantee you will be counting down the days until you come back.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
