Harry Potter is one of those series that everyone knows about, whether they have read it or not. Most people would say that it's always a good time to read Harry Potter, but here are some reasons why I believe the fall/winter months are the best fit.
1. The series starts at the beginning of the school year

2. The magic and sorcery puts you in the mood for Halloween
Halloween marks the time of magic and witches, so what better series to read than one about magic and witches??
3. These books take longer to read, so may as well get comfortable

4. The fandom's will be acting up
The second you open twitter, tumblr, or any other social media website, you're bound to see some sort of Harry Potter reference or joke. But if you're reading the series, you can sit there and laugh at the jokes, instead of being there all confused! (I promise if you're reading the series I'll try to stay away from posting spoilers)
5. Christmas at Hogwarts
Enough said.
6. The fall is usually when Harry Potter Weekend happens on ABC Family/Freeform

7. It's easier to grieve in the colder months
Any book about a magical war against good and evil is of course going to have a few deaths in it. And of course those deaths happen to some of the best people. However, when it's cold and the sun is setting earlier and earlier, you CAN just go home, lock yourself in your room, and cry because of those deaths of those fictional characters who have become more than friends to you.
8. Because Cedric Diggory is delicious
Is there anything else I really need to say about this?
9. You can mentally sort people into their respective Hogwarts Houses
"Well when I first met you I thought you were a Slytherin, but by the way you solved this issue I'm now saying that you're a Hufflepuff with Ravenclaw like tendencies." This will all make sense I promise.
10. There's that part of you that will never be the same after finishing that last page of book 7
