September 22nd marked the 12th year anniversary of the "Veronica Mars" pilot. A little show by the name of "Lost" may have swooped in and overshadowed "Veronica Mars," but it was and still is the little show that could. I cannot quite put into words how important "Veronica Mars" is to me, but I will say it is my single favorite television show ever and I have spent the last 12 years convincing any and everyone that it's not some girly teen show just because it was on UPN/The CW. Without further ado, here are the 10 reasons to binge watch Veronica Mars, in no particular order.

10. The Mysteries

Here is a very brief summary of "Veronica Mars" that doesn't quite give the show justice: Veronica (Kristen Bell) is a popular high school student until her best friend, Lilly Kane, is murdered. Her father, the sheriff, accuses her Lilly's father of the murder. Lilly's family, the Kanes, happen to be the wealthiest family in town, so Veronica's father is kicked out of office and Veronica is shunned by her classmates. These classmates include her best friend's brother, whom Veronica dated, and her best friend's ex, Logan. The show opens with Veronica as a social pariah who stood by her father's side and now helps him with his PI business, solving cases. It's a very detective noir type of show. Each episode has a smaller case and the season long mystery stems from Veronica trying to solve her best friend's murder. Season 2 and 3 contain other mystery arcs, including quite a few more murders. Because Veronica's investigating is so personal, the viewers root for her immediately and get sucked into the mystery of "Who killed Lily Kane?" The outcomes of the mysteries are intense and intensely satisfying, as well.

9. The Dialogue

This show is ridiculously witty. There are times where it has legitimately made me smarter because I Googled words they used snarkily. One of my favorite moments is when Veronica is changing her flat tire and the new kid in town asks "Flat?" and she answers "Just as God made me." When he asks if she's always that persnickety, she replies, "Sometimes I'm even persnicketier." It's almost embarrassing to admit the amount of times I had wished someone would say either of those things so I could have a witty comeback readily available. This was only a small moment with a guest star, too. Each of the characters are well rounded and have clever retorts at the ready.

8. The Acting

This show is intense. It isn't like every other typical teen drama. It got a lot of flack for being on UPN/The CW, but it's as good as any other network drama. The dialogue can be as intense and witty as it pleases, but talented actors and actresses are pivotal in selling the written story. Handling her best friend's murder would be difficult enough, but there are so many other situations going on that I'm positive I would break if I were Veronica. Kristen Bell is perfect at playing all the different ranges of emotion with which Veronica has to deal and her crying isn't awkward or forced. Every single main character has to watch as death and destruction sweep through their town and the actors are all able to hold their own.

7. The Episode Titles

Let's get back into the lighter side of this show, especially since it is genuinely amusing. I appreciate nerdy puns more than most people, so when they become episode titles, I can't help but fall in love with the show. Here are only some samples of great titles from "Veronica Mars." The first episode I saw was called "The Wrath of Con" about a con artist. Sticking with the pop culture theme, we also have titles like "The Lord of the Bling," "Lord of the Pi's" (about a fraternity), "Russkie Business," "President Evil," "Ain't No Magic Mountain High Enough," and even "Weevil's Wobble (But They Don't Fall Down)" (Weevil is a main character). The titles are consistently excellent and even though it seems like a small thing, it shows the creativity of the writing staff.

6. The Guest Stars

Even though "Veronica Mars" only ran for 3 seasons, many famous guest stars made their way through the town of Neptune, California where Veronica lived. Aaron Paul, pre-"Breaking Bad", Jessica Chastain, Adam Scott pre-"Parks & Rec", Paris Hilton (yeah, I know), Aaron Ashmore, Rider Strong, Michael Cera, and Paul Rudd were all guests. Joss Whedon and Kevin Smith both made appearances because they are huge fans of the show and Krysten Ritter, aka Jessica Jones, got her break as a guest star during the entirety of season 2. She even returned for the movie in 2014.

5. Neptune High Makes You Feel Better About Your Own High School

Spoiler: Her high school is not great. Not only do murderers and accused murderers go to school at good ol' Neptune High, there are class wars between the uber rich and the not-so-rich, there's a biker gang, and there are corrupt teachers/administrators. Rich mean girls and jocks exist in the Neptune High sphere, but they are the least of the problems at that school. High school life may not have been the greatest for everyone out here in the real world, but watching Neptune High makes viewers feel much better about their own experiences.

4. The Kickstarter

In 2013, 6 years after the show went off the air, the creator of the show started a Kickstarter for a "Veronica Mars" movie. Even if you have never heard of "Veronica Mars" before, this Kickstarter received a lot of recognition. In less than 12 hours, the goal of $2 million was met and it broke records at the time for fastest project to hit $2 million and also largest film project. After a month, the Kickstarter finished with 91,585 backers and $5,702,153 raised. If a project being that successful doesn't show you how awesome "Veronica Mars" is, I don't know what will. Almost 92,000 people can't be wrong, right? The success of the Kickstarter also enabled the show creator to write 2 books taking place directly after the events of the movie and also a facetious video series called "Play it Again, Dick" which is about the actor who plays the lovable jerk named Dick trying to get a spin off show with him as the main character.

3. The Father/Daughter Relationship

Keith Mars is one of the single greatest television dads ever. He stands by his daughter when she makes questionable, and sometimes not-so-legal, choices, he is one of the few incorruptible people in all of Neptune, and he's an all around good guy. Of course, dad jokes are also his forte, but he and Veronica have a witty repartee that are at the center of the show. Veronica's mom abandoned them after Keith got kicked out of the sheriff's department, so they are all each other has and they prove time and again that they would do anything for each other.

2. Veronica and Logan

Logan and Veronica are my favorite television couple ever. He once said, "I thought our story was epic, you know? You and me. Spanning years and continents; lives ruined; blood shed; epic." While this sounds hyperbolic, they have absolutely seen their share of blood shed and ruined lives. Logan starts off the show as her biggest adversary, whom she describes as an "obligatory psychotic jackass." He dated Lilly and was angry because he felt like Veronica turned her back on them after Lilly's death. He is a damaged bad boy with no stable influences and surprisingly, Veronica becomes that for him. Veronica and Logan are bruised and broken from the events of their lives, but they are the only two who truly understand what the other has been through. It doesn't hurt that their ship name is LoVe either...

1. Strong Female Characterization

Veronica Mars is one tough cookie. She went from innocent, popular cheerleader to hardened outcast and yet she still didn't lose herself in the aftermath. Veronica is flawed and intelligent and makes no apologies for who she is as a person. Her need for the truth puts her in undesirable situations, but she is a survivor through and through. Veronica gets a lot of comparisons to Buffy and more recently, I feel like she and Jessica Jones are very similar personality wise (Side note: I LOVE that Krysten Ritter went from bubbly, annoying rich girl on "Veronica Mars" to Jessica Jones who is so much like Veronica). Veronica is 100 percent a woman you want in your corner and if she isn't in your corner, you better hope you haven't wronged her. She was and still is my favorite character, period.

So I guess this is it. My long-winded, well-intentioned case for why you should invest your time in what quite possibly could become your new favorite show. Unfortunately, "Veronica Mars" isn't on Netflix yet, BUT it is free on Amazon Prime. Let me know if you decide to give my girl Veronica and her rag tag gang a chance!

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
