10 Reasons I Am Thankful I Have An Older Brother

Lets be honest here, siblings, are not a walk in the park. We fight, we play, we love and we laugh, but somehow in between all of that we end up having a best friend that God chose personally for us. Isn't that amazing? God chose our siblings to specifically fit us, so that we would be able to love one another unconditionally, no matter the circumstance. My brother is four years older than me, he is my best friend, and I am so thankful.

1. My brother is my protector:

My brother and I have always had an understanding about one thing, if anyone were to put me in any kind of harm my brother would be the first one, to say the least, hurt them. If I was in any kind of trouble or bad situation my brother would be the first person I would call for help. He would never turn me down and he will always save the day.

2. He is my leader:

I really don't want to admit this, but yes, my brother is right 95 percent of the time. (I had to give myself at least 5 percent if the credit) He has always been the one to go first. Any time I am scared or worried he tells me from experience whether it is the right or wrong thing to do.

3. The holder of all my secrets:

I know that no matter what if I tell my brother something in confidence or something that I just couldn't hold in, he will take it with him to his grave. He will tell me that I am an idiot for doing whatever stupid thing I did with out telling our dad first, but he will still always have my back, and that is more than I could ever ask for in a friend.

4. He is the handy man:

For some reason I lock my keys in my car at least once every two months, or get a flat tire, or brake something, or get pulled over, or I am having a seriously hard time with college Algebra, he is the man for the job. Anytime I need help he is only a phone call away. He is kind of a genius, but don't tell him I said that.

5. He is the one who comes up with all of the jokes:

I would say if anything is my strong suit, its humor, well I like to think so. I'm always cracking a joke and I most definitely get that from my brother. Half of my jokes are his, who of course got them from our wise crack of a dad. *rolls eyes* (who is great by the way, the only reason he doesn't get the credit for the majority of this stuff is because he raised us) (thanks dad)

6. He got to make all the mistakes before it was my turn:

He's the oldest, therefore any mistake he has made it is his duty as an older sibling to share the wisdom he learned from those mistakes with me so that I don't make them. I usually make them any ways, but it helps to already know your consequences. He is great about telling me how to go about things so that I don't stick my foot in my mouth and get in trouble. Because when I do he will be the first one to say "I told you so".

7. The master listener:

When I need a shoulder to cry on he is the first one there. Boy trouble, friend trouble, family trouble you name it, he is always open to listen. Even if he doesn't know what to say he still gives me his undivided attention, and that's probably all I really needed. When I need a voice of reason he is there for me, he wont sugar coat it for me. He is always there to tell me how it is.

8. He keeps me at my roots:

It is so easy to get wrapped up in the materialistic things in our world. It is very easy to get lost in it all and you often need a helping hand to get you back to where you came from. He keeps me grounded and humble. Anytime I feel a little home sick, he's the one to call.

9. He is my escape route:

Anytime I have gotten myself in a sticky situation he is the one to call. He is basically a built in GPS. I could say, "I took a wrong turn, ya know, at that one red light by that store with the green roof", and he would no exactly where I was and could help me get back to where I needed to be.

10. He has always been the master of adventure:

Anything I ever want to do I ask him first. Do you think dad would say yes? If he does, will you go with me? He typically says no to all of my crazy adventures, ideas, experiment's, mostly because he has already done them, and has conquered them of course.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
