As I was choosing my article topic this week, I was informed of how quickly the month of September is passing by. We are already almost halfway through the month of September, which means that the weather will soon cool down and the glorious month of October will be upon us. There are many things to look forward to in October, such as hay rides, Halloween candy, new specialty drinks at Starbucks, etc. Of course, none of these can top my favorite part of October. The appearance of the world's most magnificent squash: the pumpkin. That's right, pumpkins are AMAZING. So amazing, in fact, that I have decided to persuade you as to why pumpkins are fantastic. Here's 10 reasons why the pumpkin is the best thing ever.

1. It's the world's most magnificent squash

Now, I know some people believe the pumpkin to be a gourd. But it's not! It's actually a squash, and the most majestic one at that. I mean, Cinderella's carriage would not have looked nearly as fabulous if her fairy godmother had chosen a zucchini instead.

2. It's delicious

Although some people may not fully appreciate the unique taste of pumpkins, many of us do. Fall wouldn't be quite as fabulous without Pumpkin Spice Lattes or pumpkin pie, now would it?

3. It's extremely versatile

Pumpkins have many, many uses. You can make them into decorations, delicious foods, bowl covers, candy holders, etc. Hollow out a watermelon and I guarantee it wouldn't have the same effect as seeing a carved pumpkin on the neighbors porch during Halloween.

4. It's pretty to look at

Nothing compares to a pumpkin on the porch during fall. They're just so pretty to look at.

5. It comes in a variety of sizes

There are small pumpkins that weigh less than a pound, and large pumpkins that weigh over 1,000 pounds. No matter who you are, there is a pumpkin perfectly sized for you to carry home with you.

6. It's orange

OK, I'll admit that this one may be a little biased since orange is my favorite color. However, I will say that whether you hate orange or not, you have to admit that the pumpkin pulls off the color very well.

7. It smells amazing

Now the raw pumpkin may not smell nearly as good, but in general pumpkin scented things tend to smell downright amazing.

8. It makes you feel happy

I have yet to meet anyone who can feel sad while looking at a pumpkin. There's just something about the arrival of pumpkins that reminds us of falling leaves, crisp fall air, bonfires, hayrides, and beautiful colors. In general, pumpkins just bring about lovely thoughts. Which makes them perfect for the next time you're feeling down in the dumps.

9. It's easy to grow on your own

Trust me, a few years ago I threw an old pumpkin out in the yard to decompose and a pumpkin plant sprouted up. Now I have pumpkins growing in my backyard every fall, and I don't have to do anything to make it grow. Talk about the perfect plant, right?

10. It brings the family together

Some of my favorite family memories are going to the pumpkin patch when I was little and picking out my own pumpkin. The pumpkin patch is great for young kids as well as couples looking for a fun and inexpensive date. There's nothing quite as charming as walking through a pumpkin patch and hand picking your pumpkin.

It's very obvious that I am absolutely in LOVE with pumpkins. But who wouldn't be? They're beautiful, charming, and just plain fun. Honestly, pumpkins will forever be one of my favorite aspects of the fall season. It just wouldn't be fall without them.
