With the presidential election right around the corner, I couldn’t help but notice one key candidate is missing: Leonardo DiCaprio. If you ask me he might just have all the qualifications necessary to run this country.
1. He has his own foundation dedicated to environmental rehabilitation.
DiCaprio started the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation in 1998 and has provided more than 30 million dollars to over 65 organizations to help protect biodiversity, conserve oceans and wetlands, and prevent climate change. He’s even met with the Pope to discuss the environment. Now that sounds like a man who clearly wants to see America be around for many more years.
2. He is the United Nations representative on climate change.
Having been an activist on climate change since the age of 20, in 2014, DiCaprio was appointed to this superior position. Not only does he care for the environment, he knows the politics that play into making changes happen.
3. He helped fund the Leonardo DiCaprio Computer Center.
Located in his hometown of Los Angeles, California, the Los Angeles Public Library has a computer center named after DiCaprio. He donated $35,000 to the project with the goal of providing all people the chance to work with technology. This man knows what the future is made of.
4. He has his own production company.
Talk about having the means to make things known. DiCaprio started his own production company, Appian Way, in 2004. The company produced the movies “The Aviator” and “The Ides of March”, both of which earned various awards. He’s even used the company to create a movie about the global environment’s changes titled “The 11th Hour”. He can certainly reach a lot of people at any time and knows how to run a business.
5. He supports LGBT rights.
In 2013, he donated $61,000 to GLAAD, an organization that helps promote positive images of LGBT individuals in the media. When same-sex marriages were declared legal in the United States, he was one of the first to celebrate posting on twitter, “Historic day. Well done #SCOTUS.” He certainly cares about the rights of all individuals in this country.
6. He supports foundations that help orphaned children be placed in loving homes.
In 2009, he helped create an elephant, named “Greenie”, completely out of recycled materials. The elephant was then autographed by DiCaprio and auctioned off. All the proceeds went to SOS Children’s Villages which has helped over 80,000 orphaned children find good homes. He discovered the charity in 2007 when filming “Blood Diamond” in Mozambique, Africa. Instead of hiring children to play roles in the movie, children from the foundation played these parts. DiCaprio grew to love the children and has since supported the foundation.
7. He’s fluent in German.
During his childhood, DiCaprio spent time in Germany with his grandparents. His mother is German and he has since become fluent in the language. I think this goes to show that he has the international relations part of being the president down pretty well.
8. He supports voter education.
In 2006, DiCaprio traveled the state of California urging people to becoming voters and to support Proposition 87. This proposition proposed the idea of using alternative energy. It ended up being the highest-funded campaign on any state ballot. Although the proposition didn’t pass, DiCaprio has continued to support educating citizens on how their voice can make a change to help the environment.
9. He’s an animal activist.
DiCaprio serves on the World Wildlife Fund board. In 2013, he signed a petition urging the Thailand government to ban ivory trade. He preached that whole elephant populations were at risk of extinction and needed saving. Not only does this show his love for animals, it shows he has good international negotiation skills.
10. He’s very good looking.
Let’s face it- we see a lot of the president and why not have an attractive man to look at all the time? He was named Times Most Beautiful Man in 2006. This wasn’t based solely on his appearance, but on his activist and acting roles as well. If you ask me, he’s the greatest looking 41-year-old man around.
If you agree, join me in adding Leonardo DiCaprio as a write-in when the election ballots come out. He might just be the man to make a great change for our country.
