Patrick Jane, the brilliant protagonist of the hit TV show The Mentalist, solved hundreds of cases with ingenious plans and the same, calm demeanor. There are endless reasons why fans of the show love him, but here are just 10 of them.

1. He’s brilliant.

There is no case Patrick Jane can’t solve, and he always manages to have fun along the way. You can always trust his plans.

2. He has a horrifically sad backstory.

Raised to work in a traveling carnival, Patrick ran away from his dad, who only used him to make money. Later on, Patrick uses his intellect to fake being a psychic, only to piss off Red John, a serial killer. Red John punishes Patrick by killing his wife and young daughter, constantly reminding Patrick that it was his own fault that they died. Who doesn’t sympathize with a man who loses his wife and child in such an awful way?

3. He (now) uses his intellect to help others.

To seek vengeance for his wife and daughter, Patrick joins law enforcement to track down Red John, helping them solve hundreds of cases along the way.

4. He has great one liners.

Who doesn’t love a guy with a sense of humor?

5. He’s charming.

Men and women alike find themselves lost in his words and his way of carrying himself.

6. He knows that tea solves (almost) anything.

Need to relax? Drink some tea. Need to think of an intricate plan to catch a serial killer? Drink some more tea.

7. He’s always wearing a suit.

Kind of makes me wish I had that sort of class.

8. He does anything for the people he loves.

Jane spends years trying to track down the man who killed his wife and daughter to avenge them, and he risks his life for his loved ones that are still alive, not wanting to lose anyone else ever again.

9. He does what he thinks is right, regardless of the law.

Sometimes, justice doesn't coincide with the law. Jane knows this, and will do whatever it takes to get justice.

10. That face.

Enough said.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
