We all know what its like to have that awkward conversation with a relative that consists of a hundred questions. “How’s school? Are you getting good grades? Are you partying too much?” But the worst of all the questions is, “Do you have a boyfriend yet?”
I never understood how that question fits in with the others. And why at 19 years old do family members insist on us having boyfriends? Sometimes it sounds like they feel sorry for you if you aren't in a relationship, but little do they know, you're happier being single. Here are 10 reasons you don't need/want a boyfriend (you can tell these to your nagging relatives).
1. You don't have to worry about choosing between your friends and him.
As a college student, who may work or play a sport, you already barely have time for family and friends, and it's too overwhelming to add a boyfriend on top of that.
2. You'll never feel guilty about having your eye on another guy.
Let's face it, there are a lot of attractive guys on a college campus, your eyes naturally wander. No boyfriend, no guilt.
3. No one is holding you back from traveling, studying abroad, moving or transferring to a different college.
A boy should never be a reason to hold you back from doing what you really want to do with your life.
4. Party with whomever you want.
Part of the whole “college experience” is going to clubs and bars. With no boyfriend in your way you can drag anyone onto the dance floor and dance the night away. No awkward “oh sorry I have a boyfriend” conversations, and you don't have to be attached at the hip with anyone.
5. No problems with guy friends.
Not saying that all guys don't trust their girlfriends but there's no doubt that they don't 100 percent trust their girlfriend's guy friends, even if they aren't “the jealous type.”
6. Independence.
You can confidently say that you went through college and began your career completely on your own.
7. More time to figure out who you really are.
You have time to figure out who you are and not have a boyfriend to influence that (in a good or bad way). Figure out who you are, THEN decide what kind of guy you want by your side.
8. Having the ability to actually learn about relationships before officially delving into one.
You can learn from your friends' college boyfriend experiences and know what to do and what not to do.
9. Shaving. Or lack thereof.
You don't need to take the time and effort to shave your legs as often. Because, let's face it, who's really seeing them?
