10 Reasons Why My Big Is My Best Friend
Meg Croley

For many young men and women who participate in Greek life, "bigs" can become guides to the often times confusing and tumultuous waters that college life entails. While some members of Greek life are not as close with their bigs, which is at once common and understandable, I am lucky enough to say my big is my best friend, better half, and definite accompanying soul to traipse throughout the cosmos with. She is truly the older sister I never had, and here are ten reasons why she was chosen for me by the Greek gods to be The Greatest Big In The Entire Universe.

1. She is exactly like me in so many ways

From our same majors to our intense dislike of all things stuffy and pink, the two of us could have easily shared a womb. Not only do we both sweat profusely and share a deep affection for modern poetry, but we both can be entirely loud and ourselves at all times, which is a lovely rarity.

2. She is a genius

No one is smarter than my big, who proofreads my papers, is unfailingly honest, and remains a truly motivated person who is destined to be a success in life. She inspires me every day to work harder to succeed in my field of choice, and not to compromise for anyone or anything.

3. We laugh constantly when together

No matter what we're doing, miserable or content, bored or busy, we are always laughing, ensuring every time we are together is too too happy.

4. I would never have any idea what is going on without her

Being an extremely oblivious and clueless person leads me to have to text my big every single time an event comes around, and thank God she is more aware than I am and can actually make me get out of bed and make it on time to chapter.

5. Running into her whilst at a party makes the night a million times better

Surrounded by sweaty, creepy, grabby men and spilled mysterious liquid coating the bottom of my new heels, no sight is more relieving than the waving brightness that is my lifeboat of a big, rescuing me from unwanted grinding and unpleasant bodily smells.

6. Her friends are my friends, and vice versa

I was so happy to be so well-received and utterly welcomed by her friend group, who to this day are constantly kind and perpetually watching out for me, just as my big does. Even better, my big loves and looks out for my friends as well, treating them as well as she treats me.

7. There is never a favor too big

I could ask for a kidney and she would immediately look into whether or not it was medically cohesive.

8. She is charitable and kind

Always inspiring me, my big started her own charity and worked incredibly hard to raise funds and lift it off the ground, showing how pure her heart is and how willing she is to help those in need.

9. I can be totally myself without judgment

I can say or do anything and still know my big will love and support me, and would never judge me for a possible poor decision or lapse in judgment.

10. I know I always have her to lean on, no matter what

Whether it be three in the morning or during a week of hellish workload, I know the second I text my big she will respond and be there for me. I am lucky enough to have such a lovely and utterly dependable and kind person as not only my big, but my best friend.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
