Dear best friend,
It’s true that we’ve been together for a while now. We’ve fought, clashed, not spoken for a while, made up, forgiven each other and gotten through everything there is to think of. To tell you the truth, there isn’t anyone else that I would go through so much for, and I wouldn’t have it any other way. I’m sure there have been a few times that you’ve been all but done with me, but here are a few reasons why you really can’t ever get rid of me.
1. Your house is basically my house.
At this point when I come over, I don’t even have to knock on the door. I let myself in, grab a drink from the fridge and try to find one of your pets. I’ll probably sit and talk to your sister for a while before I even find you and tell you I’m there. Half the time when I text you and ask you if I can come over, there’s a good chance I’m already in your driveway. Even if you aren’t there I’m more than likely going inside.
2. Someone has to tell me how it is.
When I’m about to buy new jeans, you’re the first person that I send pictures to. If I’m talking to someone new, your opinion of them is the opinion that I value most. I trust you to tell me what I need to hear, and not what I want to hear.
3. You're the only person I hang out with.
You’re the first person I text when I need something to do. If you’re busy, there’s a solid chance that I’m probably just going to stay home. I don’t have nearly as much fun with anyone else as I do with you! Even if it just means ordering Chinese and sitting with you while you’re stuck babysitting, it’s better than anything else I could be doing.
4. You don't judge me when I screw up.
It's been proven that sometimes I do some really dumb stuff, but I'm never scared to tell you about it. Partially because I know that you won't judge me, but also usually because you're usually right there with me. Yes, you can post about it. Just know I'm going to get you back.
5. I love your family.
When it's my birthday, your mom is one of the first people who texts me with good wishes. When I'm at your house your little sister always insists that I sit right next to her. If it's family game night I have a seat reserved at the table. Your family has blended into my own at this point and it never gets boring!
6. I need someone to laugh at my jokes.
Finding something funny on the internet and sending it to you is basically just an excuse to text you, but I still expect you to laugh anyways. Having the same sense of humor is one of my favorite things about our friendship because I never have to explain myself, you just understand.
7. I've already planned you into my wedding.
Even though neither of us is probably going to get married for a long time, I've already got your spot saved in the wedding party. I need to be able to take lots of cute pictures with you so one day when we show them to our kids, we can point to them and say, "those were some of the best days of our lives and we spent them with each other." 20 years later when our children inevitably marry each other, we can be in those pictures too.
8. Someone has to obsess over things with me.
I'll always need someone who understand my crazy obsessions. Just like when I stayed up with you while you cried after your favorite character died on Grey's Anatomy, I expect you to understand when I'm inconsolable over something that really isn't even important. I know you'll understand.
9. You know all my secrets.
It's really to late to get out at this point, I'm sorry. You just know too much.
10. You're the sister I never had.
Even though we've been through a lot of ups and downs, the truth is that I love you like family. I couldn't stop being your best friend even if I tried because you're a part of who I am. I'd do just about anything for you. I would even post your bail. That is, if I'm not sitting there with you of course. We both know I would be though!
