Seriously, best friends are…the best. I don’t know what I’d do without my best friend. I would have never made it through my first heart break in sixth grade without her. I would not have been able to get though my first year of college without her. I wouldn’t have been able to pass a couple of my classes without our wonderful friendship to write papers about. I absolutely LOVE my best friend.
I know there are a million and one reasons why best friends are important, but these are my top 10 reasons best friends are a necessity of life.
1. They’re basically family
You know you’ve reached best friend level when you can just show up unannounced at your best friend’s house and just walk in like, “Hey, I’m here. Feed me.” You’re most comfortable with your best friend because they know you and still love you.
2. They’re always happy to see you
Even if it’s been less than a day since you’ve seen each other, it is obligatory to dramatically run at each other and hug like you haven’t seen each other in years. Pretty sure it’s in the best friend rule book.
3. There’s never awkward silence
I can’t even remember the last time my best friend and I haven’t had something to talk about. There’s always some story to tell, some movie to reference, some lame jokes to tell, or some attractive person (or people) to talk about.
4. There’s always a lot of laughing
They say laughter is the best medicine, so I should be the healthiest person ever when I’m with my best friend. There’s always an infinite number of inside jokes and late nights when everything is super funny. Not everyone can make you laugh until you pull an abdominal muscle.
5. They don’t judge
They’ve seen you at your worst. I mean, just woke up grumpier than Grumpy Cat, hair looking like a science experiment blew up in my face, breath smelling like week-old garbage, you get the picture. But they still stick around. You want to show up in your PJs? Cool, your best friend didn’t wanna wear normal clothes either.
6. They get you
When you’ve been friends for so long, sometimes your best friend will know you better than you know yourself, like when you don’t even have to open your mouth for him or her to know what you’re thinking. Seriously, best friend goals are when you can communicate with your eyes.
7. They’re always there for you
When someone hurts you, your best friend is always there to listen, cry with you, eat all the chocolate with you, and hug you until you feel better. When there’s something big going on, your best friend is there to give advice, give a pep talk, or just tell you they love you. Best friend hugs are always on point.
8. They've got your back
That boy broke your heart? Your best friend will hate him forever. He or she won’t let you make that mistake again. Your best friend will screen every person that comes into your life and decide if they have earned “best friend approval” or not. Your best friend doesn’t approve? Drop. Them.
9. They truly love you
There is no doubt in my mind that my best friend loves me. Same goes for me to her. Some people who come into your life may say they love you, but it just doesn’t hold as much weight as when your best friend declares his or her love. You don’t have to question it. You just know, and that is probably one of the biggest comforts in life.
10. They’ll always be a part of you
Sometimes your best friend is no longer around. Sometimes they move away, and sometimes they leave the world before you. Nonetheless, they have taken up residence in your heart whether you like it or not. No matter how far away they are, or how long they’ve been gone, they stay with you. Nothing can replace them in your heart.
There's nothing in this world that compares to the bond with a best friend. Support them. Love them. Cherish them.
