1. "Keep your face always toward the sun, and the shadows will fall behind you." - Walt Whitman

Life is not always pretty. There are days where it may seem like everyone and everything is against you. Giving into this darkness will consume you, and do you no good. Keeping a positive outlook regardless of what life throws at you is how you are going to get through.

2. "I destroy my enemies when I make them my friends." - Abraham Lincoln

Kill them with kindness. Although it's easier said than done, it is actually credible. People who dislike you wish to create a rise out of you, and by getting upset and worked up, you let them win. Not stooping to their level and rising above, is how you defeat them.

3. "Opportunities don't just happen, you create them." - Chris Grosser

In today's day and age, a lot of people have grown to think that the world owes them something. You may have some luck with getting things with minimal effort, but this will not stay a reality. It is your choice and obligation to create opportunities for yourself; they don't just appear to you. Success comes with hard work and preservation. You have to earn it, and that's what makes it so special.

4. "If we wait until we're ready, we will be waiting for the rest of our lives." - Lemony Snicket

You are never truly 100% ready for something. There are always nerves, doubts, oppositions, what ifs; the list goes on and on. If you wait to do something until you are completely ready, you will never do anything. Challenge yourself and believe you can handle it. If it ends up not working out, at least you learned something.

5. "Whether you think you can or you think you can't, you're right." - Henry Ford

If you think you can you will. If you already convince yourself you can't, you won't. Mentality is everything. Convincing yourself you can is not the same thing as thinking and believing you can; that is where power comes from.

6. "Each day provides its own gifts." - Marcus Aurelius

Not every day is going to be a walk in the park. But it is important to realize that every day has the potential to better you. Whether it is a good day that passes with ease or a day full of struggle that continuously challenges you, there is something to pull from every day. Rough days often come with lessons. Although it is tough to acknowledge this during hardships, it is essential for growth.

7. "Certain things catch your eye, but pursue only those that catch your heart." - Ancient Indian Proverb

This quote can be applied to several aspects of life, and is beneficial to all of them. There are many things in life that make us do a double take, but they are not worth pursuing. Seeing and feeling are two very different actions. You should not pursue everything you lay eyes on. You should chase what makes your heart skip a beat.

8. "Everything has beauty, but not everyone can see." - Confucius

Not everyone will take the time to get to know you, and that is their loss. Beauty is external and internal. When people glance at you, they will see your external beauty. But when someone looks into who you are, that is when they will see your real beauty.

9. "If you want to lift yourself up, lift up someone else." - Booker T. Washington

Helping others is a good way to help yourself. The pride in knowing your actions had a positive outcome to someone else is uplifting in itself. We won't realize how lucky you truly are unless you witness someone else's struggle. Giving back not only helps others, but show appreciation and humility for all that you have been blessed with.

10. "The only way to do great work is to love what you do." - Steve Jobs

We all have been in a situation where we have had to perform a job we are not fond of. It is undeniable that your work ethic during this situation is not the best. Going into a career where you have no passion, will not generate as successful of results. Doing something you are passionate about drives your work ethic and generates success.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
